Some residents in Valencia Park are resting easier this weekend. Two pit bulls that were terrorizing the neighborhood have been put to sleep following an attack Friday.
A viewer contacted 10News on Friday afternoon after her dog was mauled that morning. The County of San Diego Animal Services confirmed that the two pit bulls in question killed a neighborhood dog in 2009. The owners of the pit bulls are now facing criminal charges, despite the dogs having been euthanized.

The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services says within the past three years, both pit bulls have been impounded four times after being found running loose and returned to their owners every time.

These dogs are dangerous.
Light hammer and a stun gun?
What?
“The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services says within the past three years, both pit bulls have been impounded four times after being found running loose and returned to their owners every time”
There’s some ‘splaining to do.
...and some money to pay.
If a Pit Bull ever walks towards me, I won’t wait and see what happens.. I will find the closest, tallest vehicle and climb atop it! Once they get a hold of you, they don’t let go.
Cue the “it’s not the breed, it’s the owner” comments in 3..2..1..
While I agree the owners to bear responsibility, one can’t help but notice the overwhelming majority of dog attacks are related to this specific breed. Bad news.
Buy and carry a can of Bear Spray. Sabre brand is fine and it comes with a belt holster.
Here’s an idea. How about we start euthenizing the owners who let their little monsters run riot? First the dogs. Then the owners. I wonder if that might make a difference?
I expect the explanation is that the pit bull owner had the right connections. Notice that the story names everyone except the owners. Even the reporters are afraid to name names. Expect the story (and the criminal charges) to quietly go away.
The owners of the pit bulls are now facing criminal charges.
Good.
In every case its the owners that should put down.
Poor little doggies.
People that argue that have the facts against them. The best dog owners are in the suburbs and you never see these dogowners with pitbulls in the suburbs. They know what they are capable of good training or not. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen.
My 40 lb. Border Collie/ Sheltie mix was almost attacked by a Pit Bull.. As the Pit charged across the street in front of cars I thought ‘oh no that dog is going to get hit by a car’.. Then as I saw him charging towards us I thought ‘ oh no that dog is a Pit bull and he’s coming after my dog!’ My Amazing dog stood toe to toe with him.. gowling and barking back.. He crouched low and faced the Pit so he wouldn’t be able to grab a hold of his neck. I was TERRIFIED.. I tried to keep him in back of me so I could get in between them.. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE.. All of a sudden everything got quite.. I knew the Pit was about to make a huge lunge for my dog so I kicked him in the chest with the top of my foot.. I was shocked that he took off back across the street to his owner..I can’t believe we survived that unscathed.. If my dog had been in the least bit submissive he would have been mauled or dead. It truly felt like a Divine Intervention.
Today we came across another dog aggressive Pit bull who’s owner couldn’t control him.. He had on a collar that was twice as big as his neck.. He could easily have stepped back and gotten out of it.
There has to be new laws.. People need to be Trained and Licensed to own dogs that powerful.
When all you have is a light hammer and a stun gun every problem looks like a beeber.
“Light hammer and a stun gun?
What?”
It is illegal to carry open or conceal firearms in my city and to be honest, it’s not needed against humans if I am walking my German shepherds in my area.
Don’t want to carry a firearm anyways, I would be afraid that I would hit my own dogs if they tangled with other dogs or coyotes.
Many insurance companies will not issue a policy for your home if there is a pit bull on the premises...
You can also carry a can of wasp spray that shoots a steady steam for about 10-15 feet.
