The very horny and very loud insects haven't arrived in full force for the Mid-Atlantic cicada sex invasion quite yet, but when they do, they will come with a huge body-count advantage over people, outnumbering us 600-to-1, or possibly even more, according to the Associated Press. The exact number of noisy bugs that will emerge from beneath the soil for the sole purpose of making more cicada babies remains unknown. Several experts estimate that 30 billion of the brood will make the four- to six-week migration above ground and across much of the East Coast.

And within a week, we’ll be sweeping their bodies off the sidewalk
My son was about 5 the first summer the cicadas came. It was one of the most fun summers he ever had.
There’s no manmade toy half as fun to an inquisitive kid as a cicada. He used to spend hours watching them buzz along the sidewalk.
1953, 1970, 1987, 2004...
Those are the years for what I thought was the biggest brood of cicadas. This can’t be it.
I welcome this. The noise of the cicadas will drown out the incessant barking of the neighbors’ dogs.
I think it depends on where you are.
I sure hope Cicadas like to eat stink bugs.
What about gay cicadas. Have they no rights?
Its sounds like and alien invasion. When Brood XIV hit here in 2008, I had muffler issues but I could still hear them in my car, with windows closed, going 60 miles an hour. You can’t mow the lawn for a month because they’ll land all over you.
Where are their free contraceptives?!?
It's a yearly occurrence
CC
It must have been the 1970 season that I remember (although it seemed a little earlier). We called the them the “17 year locusts”
> “In Michigan, around lake St. Clair we have fish flies. So thick that cars trying to drive on streets covered in them have skidded and crashed just as if you were driving on snow.”
They have the same flies in the Central New York Finger Lakes area, and yes they get thick. Some of the towns have to get out the snow removal equipment to get the slippery bodies off of the pavement. As I recall they could be a half inch thick on the street. In a week though, they’d all be gone until the next year.
Have we signed them up for EBT yet?
I will eat potato chips in their honor as I crunch their corpses while I walk.
As they have every 17th summer for....oh, A FEW HUNDRED MILLION YEARS!!!
Chill, People!
Cicadas don't have "Dr" Gosnell performing infanticide.
