WASHINGTON (AP) -- Any day now, billions of cicadas with bulging red eyes will crawl out of the earth after 17 years underground and overrun the East Coast. The insects will arrive in such numbers that people from North Carolina to Connecticut will be outnumbered roughly 600-to-1. Maybe more.

My roomates and I set out on a hunting expedtion to smush as many as we could. The winner got a six pack of beer. No one tell the pitatards please.

AFAIK they don’t carry diseases or decimate crops either. Annoying but not dangerous.

I am hoping that they will eat all of the stink bugs and then disappear for another 17 years.

Kick their butts. : )

Some people fry them and then dip them in choclate. Crunchy nutty flavor.

Don’t be afraid of them. Smush them and/or eat ‘em. : )

I remember in 1987 being overrun by them in DC. I was working there at the time and remembered driving in Rock Creek Park and being amazed at how deafening the noise was.

Actually, not true.

One of them landed on my finger in 1987 and apparently mistook it for a tree branch. They have some proboscis thing that helps them do what they want to do and that thing *hurt*.

See, it’s a personal thing.

I was going to make a remark about masculine squeals, but no...I’m a lady.

When they all get going at once, it’s amazing. And the sound comes in waves.
