WASHINGTON (AP) -- Any day now, billions of cicadas with bulging red eyes will crawl out of the earth after 17 years underground and overrun the East Coast. The insects will arrive in such numbers that people from North Carolina to Connecticut will be outnumbered roughly 600-to-1. Maybe more.

During the last invasion, Letterman actually had a cicada expert on as a guest, and he brought out a baking sheet of roasted cicadas. I hear they are quite good.
David actually tried one.
OMG, LOL
Thanks for posting a photo.
Cute bugs. I like bugs. They’re fascinating.
I wonder if my chickens will snack on Cicadas.
They’ve taken care of my Japanese beetle problem last year.
I remember a hatching in the early 50’s. Numbers do not add up. Minus 17 from the present is 1996, then 1979, then 1962 then 1945, much too early for me to remember. I was 10 in 1950 and it was a few years later, about 1952 when they swarmed in MD.
I’m incorrigible... I love all animals. ....LOL!
The only that creeps me out is leeches and I don’t really see many of those marching around in the mountains.....:)
LOL
Bugligula!
Not to worry, they have a very short life span, -like one day. May they be sweet music to your ears, -appreciate.
This won’t be the Baltimore one. We had them in 1987 and 2004. Won’t have them again until 2021.
I think cicadas are cicinda cocool.
“Wonder if it’s too late to dig a bunker?”
My youngest daughter is TERRIFIED of bugs. Bugs of any shape, size or color. Stinging or not.. she runs. If you want, you can have some company. She will gladly pack up her Hello Kitty backpack and off you two go! (although I imagine you will last one week and gladly dance among the cicadas. LOL!)
huh. They’ll be in NYC, not Upstate NY.
bummer.
Guess I’ll have to eat chocolate sans Cicadas.
They don't bother me at all, but I remember last time.
Some people are going to just lose it - and some of those people live in my house.
We get these things EVERY YEAR! So what is the B.S. about a 17 year cycle?
My dog loves them..........
One of Craziest things I ever saw was in Kansas lighting bugs or fireflys were every where we were just traveling through and my Dad had to stop and scrape em off the windshield.
The other was the tornado that chased us for a bout 3 miles.
The old Mercury was doin a 100mph and a curve to the left came up, the tornado of course stayed on track. The wind was so great the headliner was pulled down to the top of the seats.
Dad was 6’4’’ and leaning to the side to be able to see the road! What a trip!
Remember that line from “STARSHIP TROOPERS”
BUGS MR RICO!
ZILLIONS OF ‘EM !
I’M BURNING ‘EM DOWN!
Better get flamethrower out......
I can relate, lol.
My sister-in-law is getting married in a couple of weeks...the reception’s going to be outdoors. Kind of presents a problem for me....
