I wonder how they will feel about “volunteering” when they are older. It’s hard to find people interested in service clubs such as the Lions today. These service clubs are dying out in my area.
Kids just might think they did their time and as far as they’re concerned, nothing more is required of them.
You are on point here, and it’s exactly what I have witnessed with so many of the high school kids who are forced to participate. The school provides a list of places that have opportunities to volunteer and put in your hours. It’s unfortunate in that I believe volunteering is a great way to give kids a broader sense of their place in this world and how one can do so much, but to place this as a requirement to graduate in essence, did the opposite.
I distinctly recall the _resident making comments to the effect that people would be ‘required’ to volunteer, or something to that effect. I recall thinking ‘wow’, how are they going to force people to do that?! I should go dig that up, only because it stands out in my mind so clearly.
