Star Trek fans have been waiting anxiously to see exactly how the relationship between Spock and Uhura develops in the sequel.
But, if super-villain John Harrison has anything to do with it, the relationship is doomed to end in tragedy.

Didn’t Ron Silver eventually see the light and get away from liberalism? I thought I read somewhere that he became much more conservitive?
I wasn't lumping the new ST movie in with anti American films, just that it's caught up in the foreign release boom. IIRC, Ron Silver was speaking in 2007 and was responding to the plethora of anti American films that were coming out at the time. Think there were four at one time that year and they all bombed at US box offices.
I can understand that. I would be utterly unable to take Ellen Defenders as a hetero romantic lead. I don’t have that issue for the most part, but I understand those that do.
I thought I made that clear. He said he was liberal who was mugged on 9/11 meaning he came around to the common sense side. No lib actor would ever speak as blunt about Hollywood as he was. Would have heard more from him but he died not long after he spoke on that show.
> Too bad Spock is gay !
While part of me wants to scream “highly illogical”, at this fact the logical side of me says, highly educated..check, different ideologies...check, mixed race...check, atheist...check. Yep he meets the qualifications to be gay...
> My problem is, once I know an actor is gay, I have a hard time not seeing him as any thing more than “the gay guy” in whatever movie he’s in. Take George Takei, Sulu from the original Star Trek. I never had a problem with watching him until he came out as gay several years ago. Now I can’t watch the orginial series without looking for gay mannerisms in the actor, which tends to take me out of the story.
Good to know I’m not the only one that thinks like this too...lol
Breeding your race out of existence? Hmmmm. I think Spock would call that illogical.
Indeed.
I have argued with my fellow Christians about “Avatar”, which espoused values that were not (IMO) Christian. I refused to pay money to see it.
I was basically told that I was silly and bigoted.
By my fellow Christians.
He was also pretty good in Heroes.
“I thought I made that clear.”
Sorry, I live in n.e. Fla. I think my brain might be waterlogged. lol
“The once secretive relations that Uhura and Spock had now appear to be common knowledge to all on the USS Enterprise.”
Sounds like they need to be brought up on charges. Having sex with subordinates is disruptive to the military. Now all the women on the Enterprise will assume Uhura is getting promoted due to her sexual prowess, and Spock is showing himself unfit for command.
Oh wait - those were ideas the original series might have understood. In the new one, it is all just “Kids in Space”, with Kirk getting command before he learned anything about life and the others all competing with each other for sex.
So...how long before Sulu and Spock get it on?
>>About a third of our country (all on the left) share those opinions and love to have them validated.
I disagree. Most of the left-leaning half of our country just doesn’t care. They aren’t anti- anything. They aren’t pro- anything either. They’re just feral humans, existing in the world of NOW and HERE, like any four-legged creature.
They lie to themselves and call themselves activists because they can hear about a cause and care about it for a short time, until they hear about a newer cause and then they move on. We could communicate with them if they were civilized humans, but they are just children of the music video, the sound bite, and the 30 second commercial that barely mentions the product being sold.
These are people who have de-evolved into cavemen, but without the survival skills. They pretend to be technologically savvy because they can use an iPhone, which is designed for the simpleton. But when the wind blows the roof off their house, they can’t figure out what to do, except pick up the iPhone and call for help...and money. Mostly money, because “help” implies that you will need to do some of the work yourself.
The people who bankroll and make the movies are truly anti-America and anti-Christian, but we can’t even discuss that on FR!
Sulu gay? Say it isn't so.
Standing and applauding your excellent post! Saving this one for the personal archives...
And you mark my words, eventually in this Star Trek reboot, they will make one of the main characters gay.
Look at 'Iron Man 3'...$300 million in overseas box office BEFOREit opened in America. Disney/Marvel panders to Chinese investors by altering the character of Iron Man mega-villain 'Mardarin'; which has die-hard fan boys spitting blood. Remember early Iron Man comics when he took on the 'red menace'? Ah; the good 'ol days...
TOS Sulu was the bone smuggler....now, Spock. John Cho, the new Sulu seems to be straight....but one can never tell with Hollyweird types.
Swish-buckler
The whole thing was also just seriously illogical. People with the technology for interstellar travel and avatars would also have the technology for mining the minerals they want from under that silly tree without disturbing anything above it.
And if the locals got huffy, the technology and knowledge of the natives' biology that enabled them to produce avatars would enable them to produce bio-weapons and neurotoxins that would wipe the natives out cleanly.
