Kiera Wilmot got good grades and had a perfect behavior record. She wasn't the kind of kid you'd expect to find hauled away in handcuffs and expelled from school, but that's exactly what happened after an attempt at a science project went horribly wrong.
On 7 a.m. on Monday, the 16 year-old mixed some common household chemicals in a small 8 oz water bottle on the grounds of Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida. The reaction caused a small explosion that caused the top to pop up and produced some smoke. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.

Nice! The teachers had NO IDEA! NONE!
My foot! They probably watched with anticipation, and when someone crapped their Underoos, they turned tail and blamed the student.
If you mix ammonia and Clorox you are creating a WMD. Send her to SFF Hazelton.
never drink diet coke and eat mentos at the same time
Ooops..
That’s kiera.. Not Kira.
Oh, for God's sake!
If Peter Brady could do it.......
Hey, hey, let’s be fair.
Her “explosion” might have interrupted the “gay pride” class going on next door, or the “love a burka” class on the other side...or even worse, interrupted the local teacher boinking a boy that was occurring in the cloakroom, or caused the school principal to lose the box top that was the key to his/her/its next “eddikation degree” advancement.
Publik Skools - Wasting your money in countless ways.
I would be very circumspect about the source of this article.
The “NewTimes” is distributed FREE and has a decided left-wing bias.
It also is extremely friendly towards the “gender confused’ if you catch my drift.
There are regular articles that excoriate Lt. Col. Allen West in the most scurrilous manner.
At least the FT. Lauderdale version is...this one is Miami, so I could be wrong.
Its not like the public school was going to teach her about exothermic reactions.
Probably vinegar and baking soda (or powder? I can never remember)
They handcuffed her for that? Damn...I’d have gotten twenty in Sing Sing for some of the stuff I did. BTT.
When I was in the 7th grade, we (Teacher and Kids) blew up balloons with acetylene and oxygen, used toilet paper for fuses and Exploded them in the School, outside the Metal Shop building, to demonstrate what happens if you accidentally leave the welding torch gas turned on. We also made explosives in science class to make sure us kids didn’t accidentally blow up the building. How far we have gone over the edge.
There should be a zero tolerance policy for having Mentos on school grounds...
Of course that was in the 70s, when you could by science kits in Radio Shack
I agree with “manufacturing white criminals” for the most part but this kid is black.
