Presented with little comment but perhaps it is time to rethink that $100,000 loan and the extended MBA program...
How can this be? No one wants to be an engineer anymore, because the pay is so weak.
Where are the philosophy majors?

When I look at those figures, it makes me sick...to realize that even the lowest-ranking, dumbest congress critter makes nearly twice as the best paying position on the chart.

They are. I have two sons with engineering degrees and their starting salaries were in line with these, given when they started.
What is surprising is that they do not list Civil Engineering. A lot of C.E. work goes to support petroleum infrastructure, and even absent that, a BSCE will get you a starting salary higher than that of BSAE.

When I was selecting a major in college (1960s), I expressed an interest in petroleum engineering. My adviser told me in no uncertain terms that it was a dead-end job with no openings. Someone would have to die for there to be an opening.
From the chart, I suppose there were a lot of old engineers who died or I picked the wrong field.
