Well, you seem to have an awful lot of detail from a couple of trailers. It’s impressive, really. Almost as impressive as the knee-jerk idiocy I see on these threads. Fools jump on here, complain about the lack of new ideas in Hollywood, then someone takes a good story and puts a new twist on it, and they’re immediately shouted down for doing something different.

You act like they just stabbed your dog. If you like the Donner films, you have them. This is a new take on the story. Hell, how many times has the Superman comic been retconned? How many temporary massive changes have they made to explore the story from different angles (see “Red Son”)?

The nitpicky outrage on this site against this film is absurd. “If he doesn’t say this line just this way, then IT’S PROPAGANDA!” Maybe they just went a different direction? Maybe someone had some different ideas? Maybe you people should calm the hell down.

Actually, if the movie did any of the things you mentioned, I'd be the first in line to see it. Again, the problem is the OPPOSITE -- there is NO originality in Hollywood. If they didn't want to try a new story, there are about a zillion villains from the Superman comics that would have provided interesting storylines. Red Son was an extremely interesting "What if?" new take on Superman's origins but they would never do that in a movie because it's "too risky" Instead, we get Superman's traditional origin story for the umpteenth time and Zod as the vilian. According to Hollywood, the ONLY villains Superman has are Lex Luthor and General Zod. They've been rehashing that over and over again, for the last 30 years.

Again, EVERY problem from Superman Returns is present in those trailers. You don't need to see two hours of that to realize they learned nothing from the mistakes of the past. They've actually made it worse -- the GOOD elements of Superman Returns (Brandon Routh, etc.) are the things they decided NOT to use.

Call me when they actually DO try something original. As I said, that was the biggest problem with Superman Returns (zero originality), and the makers of this "reboot" have apparently learned nothing.
