The 2nd Amendment right to bear arms was no more meant to be limited to 18th century militia and muskets than the 1st Amendment right of freedom of the press was meant to be limited to manually-operated printing presses.

But then are there any arguments/positions of today's Orwellian left that don't rest on such brain-dead contradictions?

Well, speaking of Orwellian, there is the principle of “blackwhite” (an expansion of “doublethink”), which refers to being able to hold two contradictory ideas in your head while believing both to be true—which was one test of how absolute one’s loyalty to the Party was (if the Party said black was white, then you believed it was and you forget that it could have ever been something else). Same goes with the proverbial “2 + 2 = 5”. Stockman is blatantly exhibiting the qualities of an Inner Party member here, and of course he isn’t the only one.
