Well, speaking of Orwellian, there is the principle of “blackwhite” (an expansion of “doublethink”), which refers to being able to hold two contradictory ideas in your head while believing both to be truewhich was one test of how absolute one’s loyalty to the Party was (if the Party said black was white, then you believed it was and you forget that it could have ever been something else). Same goes with the proverbial “2 + 2 = 5”. Stockman is blatantly exhibiting the qualities of an Inner Party member here, and of course he isn’t the only one.
