Heard on his radio program today. My close paraphrase: "I will not send another one of my children to college. I don't care if they're a mechanic, even a really bad mechanic that no one goes to. As long as they're not in the system. I know what's coming. And I don't want my children in the system. They can intern for someone, but I don't want them in the system."
His comments were prompted by two things, the new "Core curriculum," and the prevailing Marxist ideology that we're all familiar with.
As a former college professor I have to disagree with Glenn. First some colleges are worse than others. No I would not not fund 4 four years at Occidental, Columbia, Harvard, USC, Fla Atlantic etc. I also would not make the costly mistake of letting my progeny talk me into paying extra for a Univ out of state. Most of the time its a waste of money.
But there are many good State Universities and are they left leaning? Yes somewhat but if your child has been raised to know whats what then they should be able to tell when they are being zoomed by some professor and either mentally dismiss it and move on or speak up. I challenged a couple of lefty morons during my under grad stint at FSU.
There is no substitute for a well rounded education and thats what you get at a 4 year university. If you want to be in certain careers its a must. If money is no object send your kid to a private christian university.
That being said in the current economic climate and with the Muslim-Marxist entrenched in the Whitehouse for 4 more years I would steer my child to a technical school where they can learn a good skill set and get a good paying job right out of the chute.
If you major in the hard sciences, math, physics engineering, you will get very little politcal BS pandering. Even the most flamming liberal marxist physics teacher can’t alter the laws of physics.
Beck’s kids will probably go to BYU...if they can get in.
It's even less likely when you get adjunct professors who are Air Force officers from the nearby AF graduate school. Occasionally they would be running behind schedule so wouldn't have time to change out of their uniforms for the class. So do I call you major or doctor?
HS Diplomas back then cost less and were worth more. That can’t be said for college today.
My kids can go to college if they choose, but I’m not paying for it.
Alabama ceased being a conservative school decades ago. Auburn is significantly more conservative — the eighth most conservative university in the country according to The Princeton Review behind only the service academies and church founded schools. It and Texas A&M are the only public universities even in the top 10.

If a widespread, irrational behavior is going on, somewhere, somehow, the government is behind it.
But what if someone successfully passes the Good Housekeeping test of business mastery? Would that run afoul of the law? How would it be different in principle from a Professional Engineer certificate?

I went to Saint John's College in Annapolis. It's a secular school but we read a great deal of the Bible, Augustine, Aquinas, Dante, Luther, and Calvin -- because knowing them (at least a little) is part of being an educated man in the West.
Thomas Aquinas College (TAC) is influenced by Saint John's but is very much a Catholic School. If it has a flaw it is that some of the faculty are too influenced by a particular school of Thomism. I know some of the faculty and some graduates and they're VERY impressive.
If somebody like Glen wanted a good school but was uneasy about the Catholicism, I'd sure suggest they look into Hillsdale.
As the Progressives gain power, it is not clear how long these places will be able to last. TAC is going to have to find a way to deal with the HHS mandate, for example. These are very dark times for our nation, and a great many academics are adherents of the same child-devouring cults that numbers Progressives among their members.
Well, the brain washing works superbly in North Korea...it blows away to see all those pitiful puppets crying and chanting love for the Kims and hate for the USA.
There needs to be more consumer awareness regarding college. If you are looking for a new car or new refrigerator you can buy a Consumer Reports magazine and get the information you want, but where to you go to get sound information on a college? We don’t know what the drop out rates are, we don’t know how many people succeed in the jobs they were trained for and we don’t know how much people earn in their chosen professions.
This core curiculumn is the Old Goals 2000 that we were warned about in the 80’s and 90s.

We should encourage our students to do reports on North Korea. What a shock it would be to the kids in the classroom to know that there is such a hell hole on planet earth. Teachers should teach about North Korea and other despotic regimes, current news would be a great way to introduce conditions in North Korea. American kids need to get out of the TMZ zone and learn more about the DMZ.
I agree, it depends on the degree. Also, I don’t think taxpayers should subsidize any studies that aren’t related to employment. If someone wants to study about gender, race, socialism etc. let them pay for it.
I think it's fear of being sent to a gulag, as much as brainwashing.
Oh yeah. The ultimate goal is government schooling from birth through age 22.
I have always wondered when this society decided to run it's economy using the AKC (American Kennel Club) as it's model.
You can't get into the ring (job market) unless you have your papers (diploma). I graduated hs in 1972 and immediately got a job as a secretary. I took typing and shorthand in hs. Now, you can't even apply for a job like that without a bachelor's degree, at least. A high school diploma doesn't mean much in the job market any more. When my eldest daughter graduated from Indiana University, we had a conversation about her future and she was going for the Masters degree because "a bachelor's degree doesn't mean anything anymore". So, now she has a Master's Degree and a huge college loan to pay off.
I think that lefties started this by getting their degrees, this put them in places to hire others, they only hired other people with degrees. Grade inflation, from the elementary/high school level has now pushed into the college level so that you simply can't depend on a bachelor's degree to tell you someone is competent. The young person goes on for a Masters, because that is now what is required to get a decent paying job (which you need because of all of the money you owe to various colleges). It is a never ending spiral, which people get caught up in and it affects the quality of their lives because of the cost of the schooling which they are now paying off for decades.
I didn't make it clear, but this was a big part of Glenn's reasoning. Apparently, mastery of this Core curriculum will be required for college attendance. Yessiree. Gotta hand it to those free-thinking progressives.
Well...professors and education administrators need their retirement accounts, 2nd homes, and offshore vacations, ya know! /s
