The Union Pacific railroad engineer brought his train to a screeching halt as the locomotive came roaring toward the 10-month old terrier mix Banjo. Authorities tracked down the 78-year-old owner who told agents his family 'didn't want the dog' and he 'didn't know what to do with him.'

“he appeared to be “confused or senile and didn’t fully understand what he had done.”
Sounds just like SloJo Biden...
I'll bet one of the sociopathic grandkids did it and the old man is covering for him...
It’s all part of the same continuum, and If you.don’t see that, I pity you
What did that little guy do to deserve being tied to a railroad track to be run over by a train?
I'm glad this one was saved, but the evil still roams free. God, please save us.
how does one just stop a train?
Words escape me. If you don’t want the dog, give it to a shelter.
How can anyone hurt a dog or a cat? I don’t want to know or understand.
You should donate him to a 'NO-Kill Shelter', you dumbass..
Cute dog...
The article says the engineer saw the man put something on the tracks - stopped the train & saw it was a little dog.
Engineers are trained to know how to stop their trains.
Some one tie that bass turd to the same tracks. Damn it I hate when people abuse dogs!
“Engineers are trained to know how to stop their trains.”
Yes, but trains are VERY heavy, and have some rather interesting challenges with traction thanks to their use of steel wheels on steel rail. Even at low speeds it takes quite a bit of distance to bring a train to a stop.
I agree with whoever posted previously that the train was probably not moving very fast. It also sounds like someone other than the engineer saw the dog first and alerted the engineer.
Of course it’s possible. Who said it wasn’t?
Continuum, yes. A continuum with no distinction between animal life and human life, no.
If you don’t see that, I pity you.
Yes, someone will take him and love him forever now. He’ll have a good home.
I had to put my pup down today. My heart is broken, can’t stop crying.
I’m afraid I’m with you. I wouldn’t have stopped for the dog. It is a great story and makes you feel good that somebody values life that much, but the sad fact is that millions of dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets are being put down annually in this depression. As a symbol, it is a nice act. As far as making a dent in the millions of dogs & cats being put down in shelters around the USA, never mind Europe & the rest of the world — it is absolute zero.
Call me heartless but with all the deer and cattle that get hit by trains, I can’t get excited about one more dog. The condition of the 78 year old that would tie a dog to tracks — now that concerns me.
The same people on this thread bemoaning the very idea of the dog being killed, will tonight have a big platter of steak or veal or pork and not think twice about the livestock murdered for their dinner.
Either animals have immortal souls or they don’t. If they do, then we should NOT be eating them, or even killing them. If they don’t, then the loss of another puppy, while sad, is not a very big deal in the world.
Anyway, hope all of you crying over the puppy enjoy your big tenderloin steak tonight. I mean, steak just grows on trees right?
This makes me sick. What is wrong with people?
you don’t have to worry- if this old guy is senile and/or bats**t crazy his family soon won’t know what to do with HIM! Railroad tracks are what he thought of to dispose of an unwanted life- I imagine his family thinks the same.
I had to put my pup down today. My heart is broken, cant stop crying."
One of the hardest things in life we have to do when we have a family dog.
Years later - it still brings some tears - but the paw prints are forever on your heart!!
(((HUGS)) & LOVE TO YOU. I'm so sorry!!!
I am glad I will never have to meet you. You sound awful.
Oh, yeah..tell me how humans are more important.I know that.
Exactly right..which is the REAL reason we have animal abuse laws now.
