In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
lex loci (leks LOH-sy, -kee, -ky) noun
The law of the place.
Example sentences:
"Another statute book named Conscience is observed lex loci wherever God sees."
--David Mitchell; Cloud Atlas; Random House; 2004.
"He is also survived by his two Labrador retrievers: Lex Loci and Stare Decisis."
--Obituary: Nathan S. Heffernan, Chief Justice (Ret.); Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; Apr 17, 2007.
Etymology:
From Latin lex (law) + locus (place). Earliest documented use: 1832.
Lex loci says that the law of that country or jurisdiction applies where the act was done.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Rise and shine! Subbing for a sub!
The lex loci is ridiculous. Murder is fine only BEFORE birth, but leave it to the left to embrace murderers. All of them.
I’m not sure of the plot in the upcoming “Man of Steel” film, but I’m pretty sure that unquestioning loyalty is lex loci at Lex Luthor’s HQ.
"Lex Loci...???..oh yeah that was the name of the side kick of Lex Luthor of batman fame...little known hermaphrodite"
Conservatives are saying, “Let’s go see
If Obama has followed lex loci”
Will the Law of the Land
Interrupt what he’s planned
With the traitors named Reid and Pelosi?
Dude. You made that look easy. A+ for you!
When it comes to Obama, people say there is no rhyme or reason.
I can usually find the rhyme.
Drizzle and 58 here-0hopefully more rain to come-and that word brings to mind Loki, the Norse god of mischief-
I wonder if Obama’s delusion
If being an emperor of Rome
Goes beyond having servants
Doing all the chores at home?
Is Carney really the town crier
Reading the lex loci of the day?
Parroting whatever is written
In his defensive, churlish way?
And the court jester’s position
Is so obviously Biden’s to hold-
He always amuses us best of all
By ignoring what he has been told...
Lawyers’ fave old sit-com: I Lex Loci
A+ for you! Do you watch Game of Thrones?
A for you! I am weary of hockey this year. This compressed schedule is not fun.
What do you think of Clara Oswin Oswald?
Thank you!
No, I don’t watch it-I’ve just never been able to get into fantasy like that, whether in print or video. The only sci-fi I like to watch are Star Trek episodes and movies, Battlestar Galactica, and sometimes, Dr. Who.
I like historical series/programs, though-especially the British-made ones. I’ve been watching “Vikings” on History channel-filmed in Ireland, and the scenery is beautiful...
