Single-Cell Battery Charger ICs with I2C and USB OTG Achieve Highest Efficiency and Cut Charge Time in Half

Texas Instruments has introduced lithium-ion battery charger integrated circuits (ICs) that reduce charge time by 50% in smartphones and tablets compared to other charger solutions.

The TI bq2419x family of 4.5A output, 20V input-rated switch-mode chargers with I2C interface and USB on-the-go (OTG) support delivers faster and cooler charging to a wide array of applications ranging from power banks and packs to 4G LTE routers, Wi-Fi speakers, portable medical and industrial designs.

Consumers continue to want faster battery charging in portable electronics. New designs require more accurate, highly efficient charge circuitry that keeps the system cool and safe while charging at a faster rate.

If it’s really good, let Boeing know.

It appears they are a bit short on good EEs.

I was trying to figure if this IC goes on the PCB that is the Smartphone PCB or if it goes somehow within the battery pack.

I assume Obama gets credit for this as part of his assuming the “chief scientist” title today.

You'd have to go back pretty far to get more than one useful decade out of electronic devices. The old dishwashers were far less reliable than the new ones. The Color TVs of the 60s had picture tubes that weren't often good for more than seven years or so. The 78RPM boughtin 1950 was already a joke by 1960. The HiFi of 1960 was already old news by 1970. The stereo bought in 1970 MIGHT have lasted you two useful decades, though you would have missed out on making nice tapes for your car, AFC tuning on the receiver, and the whole CD thing.

Fridges and blenders and stoves held up okay, though. And many of us miss those super reliable GE steam irons that lasted for ever, replaced by Black and Decker crap. (I had to get my wife a Rowenta to achieve a comparable ironing experience.) Sewing machines also used to be a LOT tougher.

I have no use for them either!

They keep their noses stuck in a smart phone and for all practical purposes are dumber than a box of rocks!

I will point out sir....that when my wife calls me and I am not in the mood to talk I may simply have a short txt msg exchange with her while I continue some semblence of peace and tranquility.

Txt messages allow for zero conversation around feelings and emotions....right to the important part (bring home toilet paper honey)

I just listened to a quality set of speakers, a reel to reel, and a reel to reel tape, all from the early 1970s, it was superior to my expensive modern system.

Hmmm... a GOOD reel to reel (Eg Revox) from that era would run you almost 1 to 2 grand in 1970 dollars. A decent 1800’ 7” reel from Ampex or 3M would be another 7 or 8 apiece, the amplifier would be good for $200+, the speakers are probably where you get the great sound, and they can cost as much as you care to pay, then or now. We are talking several months salary for regular guy. Of course, you have gotten 40 years out of it, so I won’t argue with you on value, though open reel is fussy enough on threading that I’d rather not bother. I AM amazed at the many modern stereos that do not see fit to include a balance control.

Well, I am typing this on my 4 year old iPod Touch 2g. My dumb phone (which I hold onto in part because I don’t WANT forced messages from the gov about weather or anything else) is five years old. I had to get a pile of used batteries to keep it going. So I might have more in commo. with the luddite than I appear. I will NOT part with the family ‘94 Caprice wagon.

A 94....don't you want all the connections for your ipod in the vehicle.

My grandaughter swears by that in her Scion.

Really? I’m amazed at the things a smartphone has to offer.
A phone, phone book, calculator, music player, calendar, notebook, maps, internet with you at all times. I can even post on Free Republic. And a whole lot more. It is the Swiss army knife of the 21st century.

It wasn’t my set up and I didn’t mention any brand names, it was at a garage sale and had a beautiful, warm sound, garage sales are where I have bought many of my appliances, like my Kitchen Aide mixer from the 1940s and my late 1960s and early 1970s things like my juicers, wheat grinders, and other things.
