Two mothers’ text message argument over a schoolbus fight between their daughters escalated into a Wild West-style duel and only one woman walked away alive. Deadly duel: Judith Kowaleski is charged with murdering Elizabeth Slagle in a deadly duel that stemmed from a school bus argument between the women's daughters
Judith Kowaleski, 42, told police a fight began between herself and Elizabeth Slagle on Thursday evening.
Kowaleski said it stemmed from an earlier argument that occurred between the two women’s daughters as they rode the bus home from school.
WVVA reports that text messages and phone calls between Kowaleski, Slagle, and Kowaleski’s aunt identified as Barbra Harrington.
At one point, according to the police report, Kowaleski gave the phone to Harrington, who continued the exchange with Slagle.
Though police are still awaiting a warrant in order to read the messages, something was said that took the argument to a far more dangerous level.
Harrington suddenly told Kowaleski she was to meet Slagle at a designated point somewhere between their Bluefield, West Virginia homes.
She also told Kowaleski to arm herself.
She did as she was told and grabbed a handgun.

This happened in Bluefield, West Virginia. Lot of people in WV carry guns. Most of them from what I have been told are very friendly and nice people.

Well first, West Virginia is not West as in “The West”. West Virginia is West of Virginia. Hope the English understand that.
Second, it did not sound anything like a duel from the report.
Third, everyone knows the most dangerous place in the world is between a Mother and her child. It may be that the English reporters do not understand that.

Dude I understand what you are saying but I live here and I know these people. I know their backwards mentality.
This was not a case of someone got between a mom and her child this was someone’s pride got stepped on. Yes a lot of West Virginians own guns, which can make the situation all the more dangerous. A duel like the wild west? Yea it was because this is the only way these two knew how to settle their differences.
I have seen stuff like this go on for, well basically all my life.

My knowledge of WV is 2nd hand. A machine shop foreman friend lived there for a time. He told me there were serious literacy issues, but the people where nice people.
But he did tell me that a lot of them carried guns. I am not sure what the law in WV is about carrying concealed, but I suspect most of them do it with or without the government approval.
My first instinct was to tell the English press, butt out.
I resent US television with series like Swamp People, Hog People (in TX) and other tripe. They are constantly trying to portray people who live outside the city as illiterate hicks. They are not like that around here.
