I tried to opt my kids out of the Common Core in their school, with no luck. The Principal sympathizes with me, but said they would lose funding if they offered any classes that did NOT teach the Common Core Standards.
The least I get out of it, is that now she knows about the program and has done her own research as to what it is all about, whereas before she had no idea what it was, even though her school was implementing this new curriculum.
These schools have been bribed with funding to push this Progressive anti-American agenda. It's sick and it's huge....
I don’t mean to be confrontational, but WHY are you, a conservative, still sending your children to a public school?
The “public school” is the Bus Ministry of the State Church of Humanism.
The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.
The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.
It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is collectivist.
It is hypocritical to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. Children do not trust hypocrites, so this will undermine your own authority, let alone influence, with your children.
Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.
To understand the content and compass of modern education, see ...

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.
Nobody loves your children more than you do.
Nobody can teach your children better than you can.
Nobody knows your children better than you do.
Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.
If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.
DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!
Especially not with your own children.
And DO NOT TAKE GOVERNMENT “EDUCATION” MONEY!
He that pays the piper calls the tune, and that’s especially true for any government entitlement program.
My kids go to a Charter School. Yes I realize it’s still considered a “public school”, but quite frankly, we can’t afford a Private school and since there is no way for us afford to Homeschool our 3 children, we kind of have no choice right now.
Besides that whole stupid argument....Common Core will be required no matter what school your kids go to, EVEN HOMESCHOOL. The new STANDARDS will be required for ANY schooling, ANY WHERE your child gets it.
The ONLY way to stop this crap and fix it for every place a child can get educated, is in the Local Houses and States, passing bills to stop it.
My children have never been part of the system. We have found other routes to educate them.
That said, do you see that removing children from the system in decades to come will close the door to college for them? The college entrance exams are being rewritten to reflect CC curriculum.
How can we provide an alternate path for them? The gvt will try everything to shut that down.
If they rewrite the SATs to cover Common Core stuff, buy an SAT study guide. The most important skill to teach your homeschooled kid is how to learn. Give him an SAT study course for a year before taking the test and don’t sweat it too much.
Say “common core” requires kids to do math with some really dumb method. Well, the SATs are still going to be multiple choice answer. Whatever machine grades the tests isn’t going to be looking for evidence of how the kid got the answer; they’ll be looking to make sure the kid filled in circle B.
They’ll use twisted stupid texts to test “reading comprehension” and thinking skills. So? A well educated kid should be able to look at the questions and determine what the answer the test makers want is. That’s the real trick. Teach your kids the truth. Then teach them how to give the right answer.
It really is that simple, but it is also 'too inconvenient' for many parents.
What state are you in?
In NH, we homeschoolers don’t have to beg the state’s permission for the curricula we use.
Our kids only have to pass annual literacy and numeracy tests.
Bingo, we have an winner !
It’s the money. It is now understood that money is nearly everyone’s paramount concern. Control a man’s access to money and they control the man.
They don’t need to take his guns by force, just make them expensive enough.
They don’t need his vote, just buy two others.
They don’t need his approval. Just his money. He will give them AT LEAST half of it, so they can go on giving that to moochers, foreign enemies, and abortionists; he will give it so they’ll allow him to continue to work, have a home he can’t quite afford, put the kids in indoctrination schools and colleges, maintain that pleasant lifestyle and think his own hands are clean.
Participate in the evil system, make it work, sponsor the thefts and abortions and corruption of the children, and say you’re not guilty, you have no choice.
Works for the fascists. Works for you?

You mean “colleges” like the ones telling students to stomp on Jesus, the ones with “co-ed” dorms, the ones that allow liquor on campus, the ones where gays and other left-favored identity groups are given precedence and free reign?
You’re better off getting your kids apprenticed into a trade or into an engineering school.
And if you want a classical liberal arts college, try Patrick Henry, Regent, Liberty, etc, or any number of on-line colleges that focus on job function over politically correct form.
Do any of the classical liberal arts colleges you list use ACT/SAT tests for admission? My daughter starts college in the fall. She will be attending a very conservative Lutheran college, but they use ACT scores. The profession she is choosing requires a college education, btw, so trade school is not an option.
Why does this not surprise me?
I’d always advise parents to have their kids get an Associate’s degree at a community college. Much cheaper, and very easy to get into. Then you transfer the degree to a four year university that has an articulation agreement with the community college, and they don’t require ACT or SAT scores if you’re transferring in as a junior.
> Do any of the classical liberal arts colleges you list use

Our daughter needed a GED and and SAT to get into Liberty. Our home school diploma was not good enough, so we sprang the $75 for the GED. She made the Dean’s List, btw.
If she’s entering a conservative Lutheran college, then you shouldn’t have to worry about PC indoctrination. I would be cautious about Liberal Theology, or, even worse, Liberation Theology.
So if future students to Liberty have to take the SAT to get in, and the SAT is rewritten to be based on Common Core, do you see where students who haven’t gone through the gvt system will be at a disadvantage? We have to get these religious schools to see this.
BTW, my daughter’s school has 98% WELS faculty. You don’t get much more old school Lutheran than that. :) I asked when we toured.
I’m sure they have their ears to the ground.
There may be alternative entrance examinations for Conservative Christian colleges in the future.
We Conservatives, and especially Conservative Christians will be marginalized one way or the other. I’m sure you’ve read the end of The Book, so you know what’s coming.
Haven’t heard of WELS. I know of Missouri Synod (not as conservative as they used to be), and the Apostolic Lutherans (mostly very conservative), and ELCA (fuggedaboudit), but don’t know who WELS is.
The old going on your permanent record threat has now become a truly scary fact to be used to control our future citizens for now on.
The ONLY way to stop this crap and fix it for every place a child can get educated, is in the Local Houses and States, passing bills to stop it.

I would tend to agree, but as I found out this year our state seems to have bought into this program hook line and sinker. Meaning acttion to do something now is a day late and a dollar short. No Pun Intended.
The State Legislature had two bills to do something about common core, only to have the state Dept of Ed testifying against the bills, and as you might expect the bills were killed before they got very far. One in committee and one on the floor of the House, before going to the Senate.
Neither bill went anywhere, but eyes were opened, and people will be watching. The data mining issue is particularly interesting because of the numerous data mining issues begun at the Federal Level. Keep an eye on lists like mental illness, a rather subjective topic, that relates to gun control. Only twenty states do not yet have such a list.
