The Department of Education pulled a Quote of the Day by Chinese dictator Mao Zedong from its childrens website Friday after a screenshot of the quote went viral.
The website, Kids Zone by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), featured the quote Our attitude towards ourselves should be to be satiable in learning and towards others to be tireless in teaching.
After a slew of backlash mostly from conservatives, the website replaced the quote with one from Abraham Lincolns first political announcement. Then the quote was removed completely with a peculiar message reading, Sorry there is no quote of the of day today.
Red State, a conservative blog, took to Twitter to point out that Mao Zedong murdered 65 million people. The Weekly Standard, a popular conservative magazine, also ripped the federal agency.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, issued a statement saying, As our society rightly does with Hitler, murderous tyrants like Stalin and Mao should be considered pariahs, their victims should be remembered, and their crimes should be taught to future generations so they never happen again.

I tell ya..... The red creep Joe McCarthy warned us about is about to engulf us.
At least it wasn’t, “Political power comes out of the barrel of a gun.”
Maybe we’ll get that little inspirational gem next week kids.
Right in your face these communists pricks.
Someone needs fired on live TV!
I just love reading quotes by commie mass murderers....Maybe Che tomorrow?
Hey! Ya have to kill 50 million people to save 50 million people.
Commie Obama is still trying to “fundamentally change America.”
Chairman Mao was very big on education.
I’ve heard he liked to educate young females especially. Took a personal hand in their educational development.
I hadn’s seen that quote. Of course, it proves only that Mao was insane, drunk, high, or had been dropped repeatedly on his head.
Sort of like Obama.
So Mao’s message was:
“Don’t expect much of an education from your Communist masters, but do expect to worked like a dog when we force you to become a teacher.
Sort of like the official Chinese radio broadcasts' followup report after the initial reports on the Tiananmen Square massacre.
heheh. I'll quote that. But Mao is still not a libertarian.
Trying to?
Even a stopped/broken clock is right twice a day. I see nothing wrong with the thought behind the quote, though I despise the source.
Looking back, I misread the word satiable as INSATIABLE. Rereading, it makes less sense.
