Vanity: Has Isaiah 17 Been Fulfilled? (Prophecy/Syria)
Posted on 03/25/2013 9:18:58 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55
With all that's going on in Syria I thought I would ask the question..
How many of you out there believe Isaiah 17 has already been fulfilled and how many of you believe it is ABOUT to be fulfilled? Why or Why not?
Count me in the camp that says it's about to happen.
Once Al-Queda takes over Syria, they and other nations, now being led by Al-Queda thanks to Obama.. will attempt to invade Israel.

My family wonders why I've lost my fire for life. I can't explain it to them because even though they were raised christian that did not make them students of the bible. That comes from our hearts and few people I know actually practice it but it's the only way to keep world events and human behaviour in their proper context. Since the re-election of Obama and the election of people like senator Warren I truly knew the US of A was finally over because getting it back would take 100 years that we don't have. As a businessman, christian father & grandfather I'm watching the disintegration of the moral fabric of our country. I wake up every morning feeling a "Spirit of Dread" washing over the world and worse so our country. I'm not worried about myself or wife but our children and grandchildren who are so overexposed to sex, death and pure evil coming from every direction. They don't and most don't take the time and effort to filter it out of their lives. It's the "new normal". Not to me.

Do you think the prophecy has been fulfilled?
To: ConservativeMan55
If Damascus, and Syria as a whole, are utterly destroyed, as Berlin and Dresden were in the bombing raids of WWII, then i would say that this prophecy would be fulfilled. However, it is entirely possible, since i am not a student of ancient Mid-East history, that this prophecy has already been fulfilled. I am not sure.

The bible also appears to make references to chemical weapons...

I’m just saying there are those out there that believe the prophecy already happened.
I myself do not believe it has already happened as like you said.. it’s not a heap of rubble yet. YET.
But one person I know believes this prophecy was fulfilled in Isaiah 37. Just posing the question to get people’s thoughts.
To: ConservativeMan55
Not quite yet. When Damascus is completely unlivable and is a heap of rubble.........

Exactly. And what could make it “unlivable”
I’d say a nuclear bomb.

Makes more sense that Isaiah 17 refers to the takeover of Syria and Israel by Tiglath-pileser and Shalmaneser. 2 Kings 15:29 and 2 Kings 17:6.
The northern kingdom inhabitants were gathered like corn and removed to Assyria and parts unknown. Is 17:5.

Which to me.. means nuclear bomb. Probably, but in this day and age, contagion is nearly just as likely.

For those that haven't momerized the Bible"
- The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
- The cities of Aroer [are] forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make [them] afraid.
- The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
- And in that day it shall come to pass, [that] the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
- And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
- Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two [or] three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four [or] five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
- At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
- And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect [that] which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
- In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
- Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
- In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: [but] the harvest [shall be] a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
- Woe to the multitude of many people, [which] make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, [that] make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
- The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but [God] shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
- And behold at eveningtide trouble; [and] before the morning he [is] not. This [is] the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

The prophecy is less about Damascus and more about the wayward northern Kingdom, who allied itself with Damascus and dropped its reliance on God.
Note that Ephraim = Israel = the northern kingdom.
