TEXARKANA, Texas Authorities say a northeast Texas woman recently learned a hard lesson: Don't try to kill a snake by setting it on fire.
The woman was cleaning the yard outside a home near Texarkana Wednesday night when she spotted a snake. Bowie County Sheriff's Capt. David Grable says she poured gasoline on the snake to try to kill it. Her son then dropped a lit match on the snake.

What, no gun, shovel or axe nearby? I despise cruelty, and setting fire to any creature is just that. Serves her right!
“Good. Im glad. If you are cruel enough to set an animal on fire you deserve to lose your house.”
That’s a little strong. However, I have to say there is something seriously wrong with someone who sets an animal on fire, even if they consider it vermin. The way we usually do it (for a dangerous snake, like a rattler taking up residence near the house) is decapitating it with a shovel. I happen to like snakes, personally - I HATE tropical bugs like mosquitos and palmettos and anything that might eat them is fine with me.
We have these giant mosquitos this year that take a huge bite out of you, I’m hoping the snakes develop a good taste for them.
There was no reason to attack the snake unless it was of a venomous species, in my opinion. However, from long experience I have concluded that few human females agree with me on this point; and now we’ve seen one costly consequence of mindless snakophobia.
I guess the question remains was the snake of a venomous species?
I would be on of the few. I have no issues with snakes, unless they are venomous.
When I was at Twenty-Nine Palms in ‘84 another Marine found a sidewinder and decided to douse it with gasoline and set it on fire. He ended up setting himself on fire and had to be medevaced by chopped.
My wife has never understood why I like spiders. I never step on them and in fact hope they go eat whatever bugs they can trap.
I’m with you. I hate snakes, but I would never even consider doing that to one. Sick woman got exactly what she deserved. Actually, she got off easy.

What do a squirrel and a cigarette have in common?
-They are both perfectly harmless until you stick them in your mouth and light them on fire.
Do the Martian females agree with you? ;-)

This is horrible but if some band doesn’t take up the name “The Flaming Snakes”, I’m gonna be really disappointed.
