I sense that maybe the reason could be because so as not to “sugarcoat” the Bible?
What you describe in those sentences is probably a very good translation of "fear of the Lord". JMHO.
I am sort of with you on that, but last night I also thought about how the Middle East is still really that violent.

So much Bible history is read in Sunday school in the same manner that Alice in wonderland or jack and the beanstalk would be read, so it is easy to see why many people do not take it serious.
According to the Bible those people in Sodom were killed.
We either believe in God or we don,t regardless of what his attitude is.
God does not ask for our approval nor does he need it.
