Who among us used to be one of those long-haired flea-infested dope-smoking denizens of the rock concert world?
Guilty. And recovered.
Post up some old tunes for a Saturday night.
I am afraid I agree with the man. Tull was a musician and had a distinctive style.

“Or even at Brubeck.”
DB’s music more-or-less represented that whole smooth jazz/martini/Playboy Mansion aesthetic of the 60s. It was the bastard descendant of the swing bands, so to speak. In fact you can even argue that 70s groups like KC & The Sunshine Band and ELO were the final chapter in this tradition before it finally became too expensive to have large instrumental ensembles.

Might as well make it a threefer.

then there’s this ... Gurley’s guitar intro is absolutely frightening but defined the long forgotten san francisco psychedelic guitar sound. 1st generation fuzz box on 10. Not my thing but influential ... And of course Janis ...

I just “discovered” Van Zandt, thanks to my 20-something son. He really was talented, but such unfortunate life choices he made! Never went thru the hippie thing, tho I knew quite a few.
Ppretty much everything Van Zandt did is available at Spotify, an app I downloaded from Facebook (probably elsewhere, but overall I am a cyber-illiterate)
Here is one of the greatest stoned-hippie guitarists of all time, Steve Hillage:

He could play, check out 3:02 et seq.
“Theres 70s music that still sounds good today but JT isnt among them. Their playing style, arrangements, and sound are very dated.”
I’d have to agree. You never even hear them played on classic rock stations
Speaking of ELO

I swear, Jeff Lynne hasn’t aged a bit.
You have to listen to Eldorado from start to finish to appreciate what a masterpiece it is. I’ve probably played it at least 20 times over the last month, how I overlooked it all of these years, I’ll never know.
