Have you ever seen ‘ello ‘ello?
I’m not familiar with “’ello ‘ello,” but I love “Keeping Up Appearances,” and “Are You being Served?” Old, I know, but ALWAYS funny!
I wish I could afford to buy both, with all the seasons. These days, I go to bed so early that I have no clue what is on PBS. Maybe I should check with Netflix...
‘ello ‘ello?
By chance do you mean the sitcom “Allo, Allo!” that ran on BBC about twenty or thirty years ago?
If so, I may have run across it, but not too likely as those were the days prior to the huge expansion of the cable TV market here in the U.S.
Back then, in the late 20th Century, we got some BBC programming, but we didn’t have easy access to “The Beeb” itself (it’s selves?). If one were in a major TV market (big metro area), one might be fortunate to see “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” regularly on one of what were then known as UHF channels. Back in the late 1970’s, Los Angeles area viewers got a regular eyeful of the antics of Benny Hill on channel 52, IIRC. But, again, that programming wasn’t being piped in directly from the BBC; the tapes were being bought, and re-broadcast on the local station’s own schedule.
Only with the 21st Century advent of cable TV packages offering hundreds of different channels have Americans now come to have flick-of-the-button to BBC content. Imagine, all those years nearly ignorant of Rowan Atkinson in any of his incarnations! And “Father Ted”? Forget it. We had no clue at all.
