If our sheriff’s office isn’t busy you can get yours while you wait. Usually ten or fifteen minutes while they type up your CWP. This is in uber-Liberal (well the west side of the Cascades that is) Washington state.
There are some counties in PA that you can go in and wait. It all depends on the business process that the sheriff uses. I think most counties try to process applications at the end of the day. Before Christmas, I was buying a gun and the gun shop was telling people to purchase in the morning or early afternoon, because a mad rush on background checks at the end of the day.
I walked into my county courthouse, read all the signs they had up about having to open a satellite office in the basement for ccw permits, the waiting area with a suggested 2 hour wait for the paperwork, the notice that I would be notified in about two weeks if my permit was approved———— and then I walked out of there ten minutes later with my laminated ccw permit in hand, even though I had forgotten to bring my state drivers license from the car.
