nobody took nuclear war seriously?! Really. Some estimates say about 200,000 private bomb shelters had been built by 1965. And that’s not even getting into the large number of public buildings that got inspected by the government to get the little yellow and black sign (every mall I ever stepped foot in during the 70s and 80s, and every government building, most of those buildings are still up but the signs are gone).
Sorry but reality is reality and reality is 50 solid years of a good chunk of people saying the S is going to HTF soon. And all your ridiculous lies to the contrary won’t change that fact. Now go away, life is too short for liars and we both now how you will continue this conversation.

Here’s the problem with your addiction to lies and insults: you’re always looking for the next insult and not bothering to actually READ. I never said I believed any of it, I simply pointed out that this drumbeat has existed, and been played heavily in the press for 50 years. In fact had you bothered to notice me calling that drumbeat a cult and clap trap you’d have been able to see I DON’T believe it and never did. But that would require you to pay attention and not post drunk, and you would lose an opportunity to throw insults and lie, and we wouldn’t want that.

I’m not the one that said nobody thought nuclear war was a possibility. Turn up the brightness on your monitor, it’ll lower the reflection rate and you’ll see less dumbness.
fresh chicken manure is not usable for fertilizer...Its full of ammonia. If you ever have cleaned out a coop, the ammonia will have tears falling down your cheeks within 5 minutes....might be ok if left to dryout for a year. chickens manure if full of urine, they don’t have the ability to pee due to their having no urinary track equipment...Its pee and poo at the same time...
I think Obama would just make useless noises and stir up some dust as long as Israel was getting the worst of the battle.
But he would use every resource available to force a cease-fire the second it became clear Israel was rebounding or gaining the upper hand.
Those of us that had vision of the full picture knew that nuclear war was nobody’s goal, and would profit no one, while using it as a means of building a political power base was quite rewarding, thus saw that there was no probable threat.

Just because it wasn’t anybody’s goal doesn’t mean we never got close. Sometimes world leaders screw up, especially when they’re kind of loopy like Khrushchev, or just plane dumb like Kennedy; there’s a handful of times during the Cold War that with one less smart guy in one room the jig is up. Or maybe they weren’t so smart, game theory of the Cold War was always the same, because you couldn’t trust the other side not to and the side that launched first was the only one with even a slight chance of survival game theory said the only smart move was to launch immediately and completely. So maybe dumber heads prevailed.
I never worried because there was nothing I could do about it, especially living in Tucson a high value target, there was no nuclear war survival plan here, we assumed we’d be hit hard if it happened. All doom drumbeats get put into one of two categories for me: credible but nothing I can do about it, not credible so who cares. Subsequently I’ve never worried because there’s no point to it. Other people worry though, it’s a popular thing. It’s why the Carson’s and the Ehrlich’s of the world make the fat cash being wrong every time they open their mouths. We’ve got a lot of preppers on this thread, and this site. Not me, I don’t worry. It’s a 50 year drumbeat, not everybody dances to it, but everybody hears it, whether you’re willing to admit it or not. Most of folks get bored of it, even if they believe it they grow weary, which is why preppers are a minority.

Kennedy paid with his life for demanding the tax cuts that saved our economy from the ultimate crash, and that was a SHTF that the MSM wouldn’t even touch. It was total blackout on reality.

But he didn’t understand anything about foreign policy, or dealing with the military. The whole Cuban Missile Crisis was because he mishandled the situation in Turkey. The closest we ever came to nuclear was entirely because he didn’t understand his own job. He was dumb. And no nobody assassinated him over a tax cut, that’s just silly. That is true. But I guess most “fresh” fertlizer has to be cured for a year or so before becoming useful. It’s too hot and burns up the vegetation.
Stupid side story...I bought some chicken manure at the nursery several years ago. It was in a plastic bag. The stupid part of the story is that I failed to get it out of the trunk of the car for 24 hours...during the summer. I really thought I was going to have to sell the car. The stench was horrible...and the plastic bad deteriorated!
We were not close to nuclear war.
There were no alerts at any nuclear launch site; there were no carrier groups moved, just increased surveilance of cuba.
