Why do I view the Win8 Windows Explorer.exe to be inferior to the WinXP Windows Explorer?

Simple.

Because at work, we recently changed from WinXP Pro to Win7 Pro. When my desktop was XP, the XP Explorer.exe could find target data (we have huge amounts of data) readily for client requests. Now with Win7’s Explorer.exe, I no longer am able to reliably search and find target data. I know I have it on our server drives but rarely have successful search results any more.

But then what do I know? I’m just a professional programmer who has to deal with very large amounts of data. Unlike a casual home user.

You might wanna have a look at XYplorer

While having no affilitation, I often find it useful.

However, my go to file explorer is one I've used for years and am hanging onto the old v7 till it evaporates -- PowerDesk.

But I'm guessing that recommendations for file manager apps in here could go on ad infinitum .. lol !

Well I set up libraries to make such things easily accessible. Of course I am only accessing 3tb of data but I universally find it much easier to use and find..and organize. I personally hate Win 8. The file system is the same but the start menu is a P.I.T.A.

Sounds like a serious problem.

Maybe there is a package out there.

You are absolutely right about the Windows Explorer that comes with Win 7. It’s amateurish.

Matter of fact, Mickeysoft has never equalled the Norton Desktop that was sold to run on top of Win 3.1. They incorporated copies of most of ND into Win 95, but they never did it as well as Norton.

For file management and searching in Win 7, I am still using PowerDesk, copyright 1998. It works properly.
