Gwyneth Paltrow says she starves her kids of carbohydrates: "We're left with that specific hunger"
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 3/12/13 | Daniel Bates

Posted on 03/12/2013 1:49:02 PM PDT by SilvieWaldorfMD

She has tried the macrobiotic diet, the kale and lemon cleanse and only eating salad for days on end. But now Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that she has begun inflicting her obsessions with food on her own children - by starving them of carbohydrates.

Miss Paltrow, 40, said that that she avoids feeding pasta, bread or rice to Apple, eight, and Moses, six, because it is bad for them, even though they are left ‘craving’ the food.

Her decision was based on the fact that everyone in her house - including husband Chris Martin - is supposedly intolerant of gluten, dairy and chicken’s eggs.

Miss Paltrow’s comments are an admission that her habit of going for the latest fad diet is filtering down to how she behaves as a mother.

She has in the past told how she snacks on almonds when she is hungry rather than cave in and have a proper meal. She spent her 20s on the macrobiotic diet during which time she ate mostly vegetables and beans and chewed her food more thoroughly than usual.

In her new cookbook, called ‘It’s All Good,’ which is released next month, Miss Paltrow devotes an entire chapter to grains but is deeply sceptical about them. She writes: ‘Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it.'

The Freepers you refer to mostly include meat, eggs, fish, and dairy in their low carb diets

Also non-starchy vegetables.

You might want to get off the pasta and wheat, although it wouldn’t hurt to spend a few bucks and check with the doctor for gluten intolerance.

But no rice? No eggs?

No mention of potatoes, but probably none of them, either.

Crazy.

I'm a follower of Dr. Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" regimen, where 60% of one's calories are from green leafy veggies & beans/legumes.

Are my children on it? Heck NO! I'll make pasta with marinara sauce and bison/venison/beef for them, and I'll admit to having a bowl of it, too.

What the regimen has done for me is to replace sugar intake with fresh fruits and vegetables, something I should have done years ago. I do like the fact that my kids have been eating less fast food over the past 5-6 months.

I follow Fuhrman's plan at least 80-85%. Trust me, it's not a "diet". I've never eaten more food in my life. Dinner is usually a large salad (2 quart bowl) with a 12 oz bag of steamed vegetables. I'll have 6-8 oz of baked/rotisserie chicken every other day, and fish 1-2 times/week.

Problem with this approach is later in life they will over eat to compensate for the depriving they received earlier in life. I like her morals. She married one time and has stayed married. Her parents did a great job. Her parents stayed married until his death. Now politics...not good but that has nothing to do with the story. How she raises her children should not be a concern of conservatives at all.

Gluten dairy and eggs? What’s left for them to eat? Guess now we know why she ways less than the average Stephen King book.

Many populations seem to do fine with their bones even without dairy products. Other populations eat a lot of cheese which is low in lactose. There is more than one way to skin a cow. ;)

You obviously need to bone up on the 'legend in my own mind' program !

The narcissism of creatures such as GP allows them to believe that they really ARE that special.

Such loons seem unable/unwilling to grasp the fundamental fact that birth is fatal.

Accepting that truism tends to lower stress levels significantly in non-neurotic individuals.

From the article:
"The 40-year-old actress - who has children Apple, eight, and Moses, six, with husband Chris Martin - was also found to be severely anaemic and vitamin D deficient, so had to overhaul her diet, cutting out coffee, eggs, sugar, shellfish, potatoes, wheat and meat.

For those of you who are surreptitiously bashing Freepers who eat LCHF diets, please note that Gwyneth Paltrow has not only cut carbohydrates from her diet, she has cut out meat, too. So, what the heck she actually feeds her kids, much less eats herself, is far from the diet of the majority of those who avoid the standard American diet.

I agree. There are people with valid disease and allergies who indeed need to stay away from gluten and dairy...but that is not most people. Female starlets whose next roles depend on their being a size 2 are not the ones to listen to for nutrition advice.

When I was a nursing student my old nutrition instructor told us the problem with the American diet is that it is too refined. When you eat carbs... eat whole grain, when you eat an apple don’t throw out the peel, you get the idea. Also I eat what nature gives us not what some person cooks up in a lab..but that’s just me.

That being said it is not anyone’s job to tell someone else what to feed themselves or their families....especially hollywood females who are prone to eating disorders.

I eat lots of carbs, but gluten causes chronic infection in my lymphatic system.

Not a single doctor was able to diagnose the condition.

I had to figure it out by trial and error.

There are lymphatic issues with gluten, too.

I’ve got it.

I can tolerate small amounts of gluten, but a large amount (e.g. a glass of beer) causes severe illness (infected lymphatic system, fever, headaches, etc.... it’s like a VERY bad flu.)

If I avoid it, I’m OK... P.S. I run half-marathons regularly and I’m 50 years old.

Macrobiotic diet, kale & lemon, salads....

Now I know why she looks so washed-out and pasty.
