We are finally experiencing days above freezing here in Missouri. I have harvested some peppers, lettuce, and spinach from the indoor garden this week. It's been a busy week of non-garden activities.

Hope you are all doing well with your garden activities. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

It’s blossom time here in the valley.. time to get cooking uhhh gardening.. no sales tax week-end at OSH,, time to get the veggies.. peace and out from a biodegradable environment we call home..

Bees seem to be doing OK here on the west coast,, perhaps good news for food consumers all over..

I’m eating all of mine I grow here but.. if the harvest is good,, nothing like passing on fresh from the garden booty. :-} GB backatcha

We had an unexpected day of high winds here in NC (Raleigh area)and my 6’x8’ greenhouse blew over, but not away (luckily).

I had a few celery starts in pots, but that was all, so no harm done. I’ll have to anchor it more securely, because this weekend I plan to start my tomatoes, peppers, pickle cucumbers, and squash. Out in the garden I’ll be planting the Pontiac red potatoes. It’s supposed to get to 71 degrees next Monday (warmest day this year by far). It’s been below freezing just about every night/morning for several weeks thru winter.

I’ve got 6 new apple trees and I’m hoping this has been a cold-enough winter season to satisfy their ‘chill-hours’ requirement. We’re in a 7-B zone.

We still have massive snow banks on most properties. Bare ground is not visible anywhere. The City snow plows “took out” my political signs. I don’t know if it was deliberate, but I have my suspicions. One candidate is for mayor against the incumbant. One candidate is for school board — against an incumbant. And the other sign was in favor of “Keep(ing) Christ in Christmas” that was frozen into the ground so hard that we couldn’t remove it.

I can see city workers “taking out” the signs opposing the mayor and the school board incumbants, but Christ? All I can say is that my candidates are in good company in their sacrifice.

Spring has sprung out here in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. I was wandering around the yard & wondering for the hundredth time how to get rid of onion grass? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Rainy, rainy day in Arizona. Haven't been outside much except to run errands and to keep stuff outside from getting wet. I moved a lot of young plants outside last week to start hardening up, and everyone looks happy so far.

One good thing is we're catching lots of rain water in containers. Should keep the plants well watered for at least a week. I'd still like to pot a few bulbs this weekend if I have time.

We’ve still got a huge mess from all the snow down here in CoMO, but it’s melting away now. I planted some garden in late March last year, don’t see that happening this time.

On the bright side, Mrs. Augie’s sun room is nearing completion. The carpenters said yesterday that most of their tools and mess would be leaving today.

I now have seven potted plants at the bottom of my stairs with Plumeria, Palms, Aloes, and Begonias.

However, the people that bought my house (and 1/6 acre garden) have flipped the house. I read the listing. Here is my favorite line:

“Immaculate Renovated house surrounded by lush, tropical, mature landscaping.”

I couldn’t help but feel a little pride in that, as it was all done by hand, and all since hurricane Wilma in 2005.

It’s nice to see Spring finally showing up here in MO!! Last weekend we put seeds in peat pods for starting the vegetable garden. Lots of green things showing up already. I’m hoping its dry enough soon to get out and weed and prepare the garden for transplants.

It’s my first full growing season in this house so I’m excited about getting my flower gardens going.

Finally caught up, and can post. Today was a firewood cutting trip; didn’t get home until after dark.

It’s a good thing we had 2 tillers, because the 1987 Troy finally bit the big one. We brought the remains home from the shop Tuesday, complete with a new set of times on the tiller section. Transmission unit is shot, but at least the engine is good, and will be put to use somehow.

We’ll do some chipping/shredding, weather permitting, with the newer one, then dismount the PTO chipper, and put the tine section back on it—this unit originally came on it—when it’s time for Spring tilling.

Also Tuesday, we also did some shopping, and bought a Little Giant still air incubator, plus the automatic egg turner for it.

The snow finally disappeared from the garden, and the winter wheat is looking like a newly sprouting lawn; no sign of the garlic or asparagus yet, as expected. Too muddy to check on the Egyptian onions.

I dropped 8 artichoke seeds into pots this week; supposed to be able to grow them as an annual here, and still get chokes from this variety. Having lived in artichoke country, I miss them, but not enough to pay $2-3 each for the rusty, half-open ones we get on the shelves around here. Somebody on another board posted that they also live in Zone-5, and were trying to over-winter some, using 2’ of straw over them, after they cut them back. I’m hoping to see a follow-up.

On a whim, we spent $5 on 1-1/4 pound of bulk sugar snap pea seeds, mainly for some soil improvement in an area outside the garden. With any kind of luck, the food bank will get some, as well as replenishing our freezer.

I finished cleaning out the fall garden and tilling it on Thursday. We had a light drizzle most of yesterday, so that helps in the moisture department. No heavy rain, but may get some later today.

I’m buying shamrock plants, both green and purple. When weather is consistently warmer, I’ll transplant them in garden. They’ll last thru fall.
