Another day, another Star Wars rumor -- though this one is more trustworthy than most.
In a new profile in Bloomberg Businessweek, George Lucas and Disney executives discuss the long road that led to the purchase of Lucasfilm in October. Of particular interest for fans of the movies is the fact that Lucas confirms that he had begun talks with original Star Wars stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to have them return to the franchise for its new films -- before he had even begun the process of the corporate offloading.
"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison -- or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation," Lucas told the magazine. "So I called them to say, Look, this is whats going on.' Maybe Im not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-dee-doo, but we were negotiating with them.
I wont say whether the negotiations were successful or not."

12 years ago, Mark Hamill and Lee Majors were on a couple of episodes of the same show, “Son of the Beach.” Drugs had taken such a toll on Hamill, Majors looked in better shape even being 12 years older and coming back from a heart attack.

She’s funny. She’s taken her screwed-up life and used it for other people’s entertainment. That can’t have been easy, but in a way it’s admirable. Better than whatever Mark Hamill has done with his life — better than whatever it is Harrison Ford has been doing lately.

I’ll bet Fisher’s “Princess Leia” poster is still taped to more nerd bedroom ceilings than any other poster.

That film also featured the alluring Rosamund Pike

It will likely take place right during or after the real fall of the empire. I just hope they don’t destroy the timeline of the books, which I don’t believe Lucas would allow.
