I'll start, Best-1974 Chevrolet Malibu Classic 2 door just ABSOLUTLY beautiful! Worst-1979 Ford Futura DAMN thing couldn't get out of it's own way, got PASSED by a Ford Pinto on the 805 to the 92(I think)South in San Diego.
That 318 was one hell of an engine. I had one in an old Plymouth Fury. Sucker went like a raped ape.
Worst: 72 Pinto w/automatic. - No pick up, even downhill. Went over a really rough railroad track way too fast, and it bent the unibody. We had to crawl out the windows, jack the car up in the middle and then jump up'n down on the bumpers until the doors would work. Then I sold it.
Worst 1973 Opel Manta, brown. Just. Plain. Bad. However, many girls from my town do recall the interior...
Best 1995 Infinity J30, blueish (no, not purple, it just looks that way in the sun). First real luxury car, drove like nothing at the time. Of course, now my gargantuan (not purple, either) SUV would beat in in any race, but at the time, it was the best.
The Worst vehicles I owned were a 1977 Chevy Nova.I owned that for less than a year when the A/C Compressor seized up on me.Then the Firestone Steel Radial 500 Tires all suffered belt seperation.So I needed new tires.The next thing was the exhaust system smelled like rotten eggs after a long trip because of the unleaded gas at the time.The car dealer could not repair that problem.
The best vehicle I owned was a 1990-sh Ford Explorer. That vehicle got me through some of the deepest snows that I had ever driven through up to this year.
I owned that vehicle for 10 years and it gave me excellent service.
One small caveat. I think that even if your first car was the absolute worst, the pits..it still can't be all that bad, simply because it was your first.... ( sort of like your first time with a female..but maybe that's a topic for another thread..)
My first was a 1960 Studebaker Lark..It was fun, it was freedom, and the back seat was also the scene of another memorable "first"
Best car I ever owned, easily, my 1980 Saab 900 Turbo 3 door hatchback, with the 5 sp manual transmission. Drove it for 5 years, 120,000 miles..never a problem..and an absolute blast to drive. Handled beautifully. After that I used it as a station car for another 6 years. Then I taught both my daughters to drive on it..initially they were pissed that I made them learn to drive a stick, but later on they very much appreciated it. When each one got her license, in the senior year of HS, it was the first car I gave them..then the second one got it...incredibly solid car..years ahead of its time in safety features..
Sold it in 1995 to a retired fireman who collected/restored Saabs..just over 165,000 miles..
Worst: '83 Chevy Malibu (plain-jane V6, inherited from relative). Bad in too many ways to mention.
Best car: 91 Chevy Astro w/ 316,000 miles on it. I am still driving it.
Other best car is our 2012 Camary XLE. Previous car is an 86 Camary.
We don’t have bad cars because we do lots of research before we purchase a car then we keep them forever and ever.
Best: 1969 Mach 1 Mustang 351. I still have a 2005 Candy Apple red V6 Mustang Coupe. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Well... I might trade it for a Shelby. And I’ve looked at the new GT 500’s.
Worse: Everything else.
Ha! Someone else who admits to owning a Gremlin. Mine was a ‘73. Most appropriately named car of all time.
BEST: 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 convert. 421 tri-power w/ a muncie 4-speed and a BIG back seat.
WORST: 1972 Pinto. You could watch it rust setting in the driveway. Also, it had a knack for throwing the cam drive belt off a couple of cogs if you ran into a snow drift.
A welcome diversion from all the misinformation, gloom, doom and panic.
Best
2004.5 Dodge 2500 Cummins, pulls everything I hook to it including 21,000# combined weight of trailer and front end loader. Rides well, drives well, 20 to 21 mpg.
Worst
1982 Volvo 240 Diesel, wouldn’t get out of its own way and noisy. Beautiful paint though.
Favorite
1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super, my first and companion in many great memories. I still have it.
Wife’s Best
1990 Oldsmobile 88, it just ran and ran well. No frills but reliable
Old Relaible
1988 GMC 1500, 5 speed and 4.3L V6. Son still has it.
Nothing wrong with the 2000 Park Avenue or the 2006 Lucerne.
We don’t trade cars that often.
I like cars too much to have a simple “best”. It’s a sickness, but I have it.
Most fun: 72 Camaro. Only had a 307, but it still moved, and it looked very cool.
Coolest: 87 Corvette. Got it used, and it had been beaten, but was still very cool.
Nicest: My current 2008 Acura TL.
Worst: 1982 Datsun 310GX No power, rusted in a hurry, ate brakes and clutches like they were candy.
Best: 1976 Volvo 240, reason, it got stolen from the shop that was going to replace the clutch and brakes. Their insurance company paid me $1500 more than I paid for the car a year before.
Second Best: 1999 Lexus SC400. This was their V8 4.0 liter rear wheel drive sports car. It was a rocket. Bought it off EBAY for $13000. Drove it for a year. Sold it on EBAY for $13400. The only thing I put in it was super unleaded. Not another cent for anyhting else, even oil.
Worst: 1982 Volvo 240 purchased to replace the Volvo above. I found out about 4 months after I bought it that the used car salesman had turned back the mileage on the odometer from 170K to 49k. The previous owner saw it in the parking lot of the bar I was in and told me the story how he had totaled the car. The insurance company sold it to a company that repaired it and then turned back the mileage and falsified the title. This was before CARFAX.
Worst: 1974 AMC Gremlin. My first new car. It was cheap and I could afford it on what I was making from my first real job. The thing rusted out from under me in under five years. I heard the tranny went right after I traded it.
Best was a Mazda 626. I bought it used. That thing was great on gas and solid as a rock. That thing really took a beating. After I got another car and it sat in the yard for two years, it went to my son after he got out of the navy. He got it back on the road and drove it for several more years. He ran it through the ringer including several accidents. He drove it until he saved enough for another, better vehicle.
Yea thats great, my first car was a 61 Studebaker Lark, the front seat folded back flat so the inside of the car was a big flat pad. Wonderful memories of my high school girlfriend. I also had a great 65 VW notchback 1500 cc. dual carb. Great car, I smashed it into a telephone pole while drunk and attempting to elude the LAPD. They pulled me out and gave me a whuppin. I have a 93 F-150 thats pretty great, but it sucks down the gas. Worst car was probably a Dodge Intrepid.
