VICTORVILLE • As Easter approaches, some High Desert residents have wondered if the wooden cross that went missing in January would ever return to its rocky perch overlooking the Mojave Narrows Bridge.
But the cross that greeted commuters along Highway 18 and gave hope to many senior residents at the River Ranch Mobile Park on Stoddard Wells Road near the bridge has been destroyed.
Daily Press Staff Photographer David Pardo found the cross in pieces when he climbed the hill Friday afternoon on a photo assignment to investigate a report that it was missing.
“I know that the cross to many is just a piece of wood, but it’s the symbol behind it,” said Susan Herrera of Apple Valley. “Our flag is only material, but it stands for our freedom and sacrifice to get it.”
Jodie Whitehead, of Hesperia, shared her perspective on the cross’ destruction.
“Destroying a symbol of hope cannot destroy our faith,” Whitehead said. “All such efforts are futile. Hate and ignorance will continue, but so will our faith in God.”

Let’s face it, they do not destroy the cross because it offends them, they destroy it because it convicts them.

place an Iron Cross (steel, aluminum etc) and ‘camo’ it with wood.
If ‘they’ take clubs to it there hands will suffer.
If ‘they’ burn it, it will (defiantly) still be there.
Put a web cam on it, and- if the establishment won’t recognize ‘private property’, a little deck plate justice never really hurt anyone— relocate some critters, including the slithering kind.

To them, the cross is like a mirror, and their reflection horrifies them. They'd rather not look at it.
Today, the atheists fear of Christian icons is nothing short of irrational. They seem to either tremble in fear, or lash out with rage. (Deep inside, they know they have but little time. Demons always screech the loudest when they're being cast out.)

Build another cross.
Put it up.
Get night vision goggles.
Guard the place from around 100 yards with a good sniper rifle.
When perps are sighted, we get a double bonus...good target practice and we off some athiest/libs.

The terrain would preclude the webcam idea, but a steel cross set deep in concrete would help. Go to the click through the link to the Daily Press and expand the picture. You can see how rough the terrain is. My son and I drive Stoddard Wells Road to get to Costco. The rocky outcroppings are really beautiful, but nobody notices because they are mostly on the freeway that runs along side it. Frankly, I never noticed that cross.

I’m not “that eager” for anything but the facts which you don’t seem to have.
I don’t have the facts except that a Christian cross on a hilltop was stolen and later found utterly destroyed.
I have the right to the opinion that this was the work of atheists. Atheists’ hatred for Christian symbols is well known & documented and no, I don’t think this was the work of Muslims nor was it an act of random vandalism.
Someone or some people were sufficiently enraged by the sight of this cross in public view to tear it down and totally destroy it. I think it was atheists. So there.
