Despite solid ratings for Sunday's 85th annual Academy Awards, host Seth MacFarlane is catching a lot of flak for his crude jokes about women, Jews, Abraham Lincoln and most notably, actresses' boobs.
In a musical number titled "We Saw Your Boobs," MacFarlane pointed out actresses who have bared all on-screen often during emotionally-charged or rape scenes. Women both in the audience and watching at home were offended by the song, calling it crass and inappropriate. We spoke with Elizabeth Cantillon, film producer and executive vice president of production at Sony who was in the audience at the Dolby Theater Sunday night, who tells us she and her colleagues were outraged:
I was with a number of women in the movie business who were shocked that that's what the Academy Awards chose to emphasize when really what we should be doing is promoting growth to our business and what's great about our business.
You're talking about the great American actresses, you're talking about Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep. People who have had long and successful careers, have won awards, and objectifying them and it's not right even if you're trying to be humorous it's identifying a select group and picking on them for ridicule. Which I would think, with the history of the Academy and people who are contributors in Hollywood, that wouldn't be okay.
Even if it had been hilariously funny, I don't know that that should be the source of comedy on a show that is meant to promote our business around the world. These women are international stars, that's their business, they're important businesswomen as well as artists and that's key to success in our business and appreciating them.

RE: Then Austin Powers had Alotta Fagina.
Yes, and Ivana Humpalot. LOL.
hollyweird starlets forced to the REALITY of why they are watched (at least from the front)
...have shown us their boobs!
***I cant imagine seeing Meryl Streeps boobs. That would make me puke.****
She looked pretty good thirty years ago!
It’s also amazing how actresses in classic films managed to play “emotionally charged scenes” and never once bare their boobs.
I think it’s called CLASS.
That would make me puke.**** She looked pretty good thirty years ago!
For years, Hollyweird has been trying to tell us that Streep is a beauty . . . same thing with Webster Hubbell's daughter, Chelsea. But no matter how much to try to convince us, neither one of them have ever been nor will they ever be any kind of a beauty, regardless what the RIM tells us.
When the “Boobs” number was playing the camera focused on the female actors as they were named. All of them looked upset.
One was named that had never had her boobs exposed on the big screen and she gave a smile and at thumbs up.
Those reactions were filmed in advance...do you really think they would take any chances?
A bit ironic considering the booming industry of plastic surgery in the entertainment community.
Actually, in terms of getting people to watch, it may have been the best host ever. I never watch the Oscars but tuned in to see it this time.
And I thought his material was quite witty. He is obviously very talented. It certainly was not in the gutter like some of the stand up shows I have been to.
Actually, you can see worse than what is being complained about when you watch Leno. If Leno did not have a penis to joke about he would lose half his material.
Where’s Juanita Moore to sing “Bounce Your Boobies.”?
:)
McFarlane made a porn reference less than 10 seconds into his opening monologue, the idea that this group of folks and their entire industry has any decorum or class is nonsensical, let alone that this “awards show” is anything but more putrid filth from them is laughable.
There is no class in Hollywood, it is a land of pedophiles and hedonists, using their venue to try to force their warped values on the rest of us.
Anyone remotely outraged by anything Seth did is an idiot, he did what he has always done, and fact no one complained when it was announced he would be the host shows you just how much they care.
I give Brad Pitt for being a braver man than I.. not enough alcohol on the planet to get me to wet my wick in Billy Bob’s sloppy seconds, no matter how hot she may look.
There, I will be just as crass as hollywood.
The Oscars were hosted by Seth McFarlane... famous for "Family Guy" and "Ted", both comedies that are enjoyed because they are crass and inappropriate. Exactly what did they expect?
Seems others thought so as well. MacFarlane's vulgar, hilarious, talking teddy bear film earned over a half billion dollars worldwide, far more than any of the films "honored" for the coveted Best Picture award.
If Hollywood's sole purpose on this planet is to entertain us, why wasn't "Ted" recognized? And Jennifer Lawrence should've won Best Actress for "Hunger Games" --a film people actually watched, unlike the one she was awarded for.
And finally. Hey academy, want more people to watch the Oscars? Try getting the nominated movies to DVD sooner so we can watch them at home and then we'll actually give a hoot whether they win or not. It's hard to care about movies if we haven't seen them and as it is, "Argo" was the only film I've had a chance to watch. The telecast used to always be in late March or early April after pretty much all the nominated films had hit the rental market. Now it's February and there are still many nominated films that have yet to hit DVD or pay-per-view.
It's called acting.
Acting the part of a fighter is different than simply filming a real fight. One requires acting, one does not. A good actor can appear to have been beaten, while any idiot can actually be beaten.
A woman baring her breasts to make the viewer sense a sexual scene, is using the tools of a stripper, not an actress.
