Well the NASCAR press conference was useless.
Via other media I hear that there are 2 critically injured and one of those is a child.
My prayers for all injured parties, and their families.
I assume the medical crews were tending to the children and the critically injured and that’s why a couple of fellow spectators were attending to the guy with the tire next to him. Frustrating there weren’t enough medics to go around apparently — a bit of negligence there too. Kudos go out to the two guys who stepped up to help - esp. the dude who took charge, and used his shirt in his first aid efforts.
How frightening... Watched the Bodine truck crash that was also posted on this thread - those roll cages are marvels, although it would seem Bodine probably had some divine intervention in that crash as well.
The idea that attending sporting events must be risk free is ridiculous.
Soccer? Hockey? Baseball? You can be severely injured or killed attending those sports.
There was a La Mans race where 80 spectators were killed. They finished the race.
Here a tire went over the fence. Remember the big wreck at Indianapolis when many tires went over the fence? That led to the development of the “Indianapolis catch fence” which most NASCAR tracks use, but NOT Indianapolis!
Go figure.
