After a lifetime of being a Republican, I'm leaving the GOP and registering as a Democrat. Why? I've tried to change the GOP from within, wiht little luck, so I figure it's time I help to change the Democrat Party from within....

I remember Henry "Scoop" Jackson, Hubert Humphrey, Harry Truman -- I knew the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was a friend of America. This is no Democratic Party.
You think that you can change this?

Clearly, you have a death wish.
Your mangled body will be found in a dumpster behind the site of the first meeting where you stood to ask those first embarrasing questions.
These Chicago street thugs now in control of the Dems do not screw around!

Better get a lobotomy or you won’t fit in. Course your plan of action leads me to believe that maybe the lobotomy would be overkill.

Serious proposal. I’m a hard core conservative, so my vote will always go that way, but I can’t resist the urge to mess with my local Democrats a little. Remember, we got John McCain as the GOP candidate partly because of all the Deomcrats that voted in the Iowa caucus. A little back-at-ya might be in order....

Bring plenty of lubricant. You’ll have enough left over from the GOP for sure.

I have cancer. If/when it gets to the stage that I know the end is near, I also am going to change my party registration to Democrat. If there’s going to be somebody dying, I’d rather it would be one of them.

“Registering” as regards a party in today’s political environment is just plain dumb.
The only thing that registering gets you is constant and irritating requests for YOUR money from people you don’t want in elected office.
Don’t feed the beast...de-register completely regarding “party”.
At the very least, it would de-legitimize the corrupt kabuki theater we call “The Primaries”!

at least if you are in a blue state, your congress critters will answer your mail, as they (or their staff strap hangers who actually handle the calls and mail) consider you a “voter” unlike if you are a registered Republican
Personally - “independents” get a lot less junk mail and some elected reps MIGHT think they dont have your vote in the can no matter WTH they do

I understand how you feel as the similarities between the two major political parties are striking. Yet, one party is far more clever politically than the other, hence they remain in power.
Attempting to change either party (at this point) is a huge challenge as the disconnect between government and the electorate is as great as I’ve ever seen.
I continue to hear the argument (strongly supported by the establishment) that a third party is hopeless. But, I continue to wonder if a third party isn’t now an easier path to representation than attempting to change either the existing Democrat or Republican parties.
