Good catch. It completely went over my head the first time. It reminds me of the Olympics a couple of years ago when some ditz couldn’t stop referring to a black athlete born and raised in Canada as “African American”. He had to correct her four or five times: “ma’am, I don’t know how to say it any clearer: I’m not African, and I’m not American.”
Well, technically, a Canadian is an American, of the “North and South America” variety.
I knew a very PC young man who insistently referred to a black figure skater from France as, “An African-American French Girl.”
No amount of correcting him would get him to wake up.
