Having owned one of each at the same time...

...I will say the Tervs have much more expressive faces and generally goofier demeanors. My Timber (GSD) was a very stoic, spartan machine of a dog that didn't suffer fools. Ranger (Terv) is a clown. When I had both of them it was like living with Clint Eastwood and Borat under the same roof.
