He played theramin on Good Vibrations for the Beach Boys as well.
The area where that incident took place was designated as an ordinance disposal zone and pilots not disposing of ordinance were supposed to avoid it. It was on a straight line between Paris and where Miller’s small plane took off from. During the War there were a lot of inexperienced pilots, and Miller’s was one of them. It is speculated that Miller’s pilot just flew the direct route because he was more afraid of getting lost than being hit with discarded ordinance. Flying an indirect course in bad weather at night by dead reckoning can be tricky. Staying on a constant compassing heading is easy, eventually, you’ll see Paris.
I am sure that people aware of the facts had no trouble whatsoever putting 2 and 2 together, but there was a lot of reasons not to. The effect on Anglo-American relations was a big one.

Understand, thanks. Although as often is said, “Absence of evidence does not necessarily mean evidence of absence.”
“My favorite is the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks.”
One of my favorites too. There can’t be too many of us that like music of that era. Me, I like The Original Memphis Five.
