OK fellow FR ping list managers, here is a place to gather, to chat and to identify issues that we need help with.
Me first, since this is my thread. The pro-life/Catholic ping list is now so large that the system pings twice and three times all too often. Any ideas on fixing this?

Sarah Palin’s List sometimes does the same thing, particularly when I preview. I’ve tried to stop previewing.
You can also separate your list into two parts. Try to post it in equal half’s.

Since there’s a “Pennsylvania” sidebar, I usually don’t ping for every article. I try to keep it a relatively low-volume ping list.
If someone pings me to ping the list, I always do so, assuming the poster deems it important.
I then use use judgment to ping articles if I find them pertinent or of special interest.
I keep the ping list & generic message in a text file, to copy and paste as needed.
Suggestions are always welcome (complaints are referred to the third floor customer service desk, right next to gift-wrap).

I used to ping a really large list. It did not re-ping two or three times by itself. I think there is something else wrong with the system now. Has anyone gotten an answer from JohnRob?
I only encountered that problem one time—can’t recall whether it was with the Lutheran or the Orthodox ping list (I do both).
My recollection is that everything had seemed to freeze so I hit post a second time and voila, a double ping.
I’m on a couple of pinglists and it’s not uncommon these days to get multiple pings. Interestingly enough, I seldom do from PJ-Comix’s DUmmie FUnnies. Maybe it has something to do with coupons? ;-)
Three of my lists are pretty big, so when I post, I always have my own ping page open. IF the post seems to freeze on the posting page, I hit refresh on my ping page as fast as I can, and if it is there, I immediately close the posting page. I usually catch it in time to stop the double posts, but every once in awhile, it beats me.
Poor SJackson’s list must be HUGE. His always post three or four times.
As Onyx mentioned cutting the list in half has worked most of the time for me with the Sowell list. Once in a while one half may still post twice.
I also have two windows open and when I post half the list I go to the other window and open the thread to see if it’s posted. If it has posted I’ll go back to the post thread and many times it hasn’t posted yet so I’ll terminate that post.
It’s a lot of messing around but it most always solves the double posts and it makes the pingee’s happier. :-)
Several years ago when I did a big list, I used to get a “Session Timed Out” window, requiring me to go back to the Forum from scratch instead of being returned to the thread automatically. It usually made me wonder if the entire list pinged. However, the entire list did ping — I found this out by FReepmailing the last few names on the list from time to time and asking if they got their ping. (They did.)

Is it because of a large list of pingees that pings are double or triple? I’m on SJackson’s Middle East/Terrorism list and it’s always many duplicates; also NYer’s list and it’s often dupes.
And when I ping it’s almost always double or triple. It’s getting very tiresome. Is there a cure?
AM, if it's a function of the number of recipients I'd do multiple pings to a smaller number if I knew what the number might be. Wouldn't help my own my comments page which becomes unmanageable, but might help everyone else.
I don’t mind. Rather that than no pings at all.
