The Return of the King
Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers!
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of Men fails
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship
But it is not this day
An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Man comes crashing down
But it is not this day!
This day we fight!
By all that you hold dear on this good earth
I bid you stand, Men of the West!
If Tom Bombadil was interested, He would also be a very great help (perhaps more than even Gandalf). Perhaps. Thank you for spelling Aragorn correctly.
Gandalf could not have done what Aragorn was prophesied to accomplish, just as no one but the Messiah will obliterate ALL the enemies of Israel upon His return.
Zechariah 14
“12 Now this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. 13 It will come about in that day that a great panic from the Lord will fall on them; and they will seize one anothers hand, and the hand of one will be lifted against the hand of another. 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold and silver and garments in great abundance. 15 So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.
16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, there will be no rain on them. 18 If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the Lord smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.
I thought that was a travesty. That chapter was where Merry and Pippin finally came into their own and showed what Free Men could do when they set to it.
The LOTR movies were pretty good at creating the WORLD of Tolkien. They were at best marginal in handling the characters of the story. Jackson didn’t understand the motivations or character of the people in the story. The movies were fun to see, but fell well short of the books.
And Jackson is raping “The Hobbit”...
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship
But it is not this day
An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Man comes crashing down
But it is not this day!
He's around here somewhere...
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."
Regards,
Gandalf
One of my favorite books. Thank you for the quote.
