A milestone of the year. Wonderful coverage this year on the webcast.
This festival marks the return of the sun to the northern hemisphere as well as the celebration Shetland heritage. It is sort of a combination of Halloween, Mardi Gras and Groundhog Day.
Thank you. That was marvelous!
Glad you liked it! This year the weather wasn’t the best but everyone had a great time from the looks of it.
Thanks for that link. I’ve known about this for many years, and that’s the first time I’ve been able to see it live. Also, in reference to your nom de plume ‘prisoner6’, do you know who number 1 is?
do you know who number 1 is?
You are, Number 6.
And
Questions are a burden to others, answers a prison to oneself.
The Prisoner started me on the road to individualism and hard core conservativism. All three of my kids know it well.
BCNU!
Oh thanks for the pic! I was going to try but my screen cap skills need some work, LOL!
It is a picture from the 2008 Up Helly.
I had no luck in viewing the video at your link, does it work for you?
Yes it worked fine even though I’m stuck with Comcast, lol! There will be videos on YouTube as soon as the town recovers.
Interesting that the galley in your pic is very similar to this year’s galley.
They probably use the same Galley every year. The video still does not work :(
One of my favorite series of all time. More than any other it has stuck with me through the years. I’m trying to get one of my kids (college age) to watch the entire thing.
Tally Ho!
No they actually start building a new galley in the fall. It is the burned.
I figured out why the feed doesn’t work. My bad! I posted a link to the high resolution feed. It doesn’t work on all machines including the tablet I’m on now.
If you copy the url and just enter http://uphellyaa.com it should let you pick the resolution that works. They may have ended the webcast but there are other links.
