Following a public policy meeting of African-American leaders, National Urban League president Marc Morial and National Action Network president Al Sharpton called for a new national assault weapons ban, saying the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution should be regulated.
Absolutely, I mean if you look at the Second Amendment it was that you would have militia to protect yourself in case the government came and attacked citizens, he responded.
First of all, if the government were to come to disarm you, you would not be able to use an automatic weapon to defend yourself. Lets be serious. Were in a world of drones now so the Second Amendment would not help you in that area. It is absurd to try to cite that.

i wonder... if i happened to accidentally damage a drone that happened to be above my property, do i get to claim the salvage?
Get those white devils, eh Al?
I think they fly high enough to be beyond rifle range. They would be...difficult to destroy but not impossible to affect.
National Urban League president Marc Morial spoke: And we absolutely think that the idea of banning a military style assault weapon, a weapon that I am confident that Thomas Jefferson and James Madison never laid their eyes on,....”
Perhaps Marc Morial would have been well advised to heed the admonition: “It is better to be silent and thought a fool then to open ones mouth and leave no doubt” The military assault weapon in the days of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison was a semi-automatic air rifle up to about 40 of the .46 caliberrounds with a magazine capacity of 22 rounds designed by the clockmaker Batolomeo Girondini for usee by the Austrian Army in the period circa 1787 to 1801. The Austrian Army took the Girondini repeater air rifle out of service because France’s Napoleon threatened to give no quarter (surrender ternms) to Austrian troops captured with the girondini air rifle, and due to the difficulties in maintaining the unusual weapon. Nonetheless, the Lewis and Clark expedition of discovery used the weapons. There can be little doubt that Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were very well aware of the Girondini repeater air rifles asssault weapon characteristics while in use by the Austrian and American military, whether or not they had the opportunity to “lay their eyes” on the Girondini rifle.
Perhaps Marc Morial would remedy his ignorance and dispel his apparent foolishness with an apology for misinforming his audience and unjustly maligning his opponents?
An armed citizenry exists independent of a militia (i.e., you can have armed citizens without having a militia). On the other hand, a militia CANNOT exist without an armed citizenry. Thus, an armed citizenry is paramount, a militia is a side effect.

“Resist we much.”
Al may indeed be an idiot, but lets look at his record.
He was ordained when he was 10 which doesn’t say much for the Pentacostal Church. He inserted himself into manu Civil rights movements. He got people killed during the Tawana Brawley affair, lost a law suit over it,Never paid a dime of it himself, got others to pay it off for him.
Has never worked a day in his life. Travels first class to anywhere he wants to go.and now he has his own TV show with MSNBC.
Now that may be the life of an idiot, but if it is there are a lot of people a hell of a lot more stupid than Al who are paying his way.
Obama To Top Brass: Will You Fire On American Citizens?
January 24, 2013 By Daniel Noe 3
The Obama administration is openly escalating its campaign against private gun ownership and shaking up the top ranks of the military command structure but is it also preparing to make war on the American population?

Obama does skeet shooting all the time
Monday, January 28, 2013 5:10
Yeah, riiiiight.
Obama Discusses Gun Control, Tells The New Republic We Do Skeet Shooting All The Time
.................
Obama added to that perspective by admitting that he has fired a gun. Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time, he said.
....................
“You buying this? Im not. If he really did skeet shooting we would have seen a picture already as he loves tweeting pictures of himself. Apparently not even HuffPo SuperUsers are buying it either. Some of their comments:
Barackis
please sit down now
. you are a divider, not a uniter
It would be nice if libs stopped making this about hunting
.the original intent deals with tyranny and today you can add self defense.
He doesnt know which end of the shotgun to hold.
DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO.
Obama still thinks this is some urban vs rural thing. That just goes to show how out of touch he is with gun culture.
Aw shucks, SEE..Hes just one of the guys!
.This makes it all different now
I love the hunting analogy from a constitutional scholar!
I tried to find out how many times Obama has been to Camp David and although I couldnt find the exact amount, it has been quite substantially less times than Bush and dramatically less times than Obama has golfed.
Funny how after being president for four years we are just now hearing how he does skeeting shooting when hes trying to implement strict gun control laws. What a coincidence ”

“But what it does guarantee is public access to civilian semi automatic versions of military style firearms and this has ALWAYS been the case.”
The way I read the 2A says nothing about limiting the technological degree or size of the arms the people can bear. Tanks, battleships, fighter planes, mini-guns, MA Dueces, whatever.
Or am I missing something?
Al’s got a lot to learn about the 2nd ammendment, guns and the American psyche.
My statement was based on traditional interpretations of what the Second Amendment intended - civilian familiarity with military style shoulder arms.
Except of course for abortion and sodomy. Hypocrite.
OMG. It is a happy day for me when I see Stefan quoted on FR. There are some things about him that the more religious freepers won’t like, but when it comes to a crystal clear understanding of government, he is as on the mark as anyone around today.
