DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

The Declaration of Independence makes a point that the government derives its powers from the consent of the governed.
If I don't have a right to own a full-automatic weapon, I can't delegate that right to the government.
During the Korean campaign was issued and carried a “select fire” 30cal carbine. DHS probably was to show these as AR’s being sold at gun shows.
As long as the 2nd amendment is being challanged I remind FRs that;

The U.S. military in all its forms are Constitutionally forbidden to operate within the United States. This has never been disputed as long as I have been alive.
Civilian law enforcement nationwide universally does not use F16, tanks, antitank weapons, machine guns, artillery, mortars, Predator UAVs or Aircraft carriers, the sort of military equipment Barack and Diane Feinswine love to absurdly claim that the NRA and the redneck American "gun culture" want to own. Never mind that none, ZERO mass killings have been perpetrated by legal NRA gun owners, certainly, none with 50mm machine guns or 20mm canon.
This underscores the correct and reasonable expectation and assertion that American citizens ARE absolutely entitled to exercise their right to keep and bear arms used BY EVERY LAW ENFORCEMENT WHICH IS NOT A PART OF THE NATIONAL ARMED FORCES OR THE NATIONAL GUARD, without exception; without taxing ammunition beyond the means of the ordinary citizen; without draconian ownership and transfer "fees" that are intended to make ownership by ordinary citizens impossible. The power to tax is the power to destroy.

Perhaps the federal HHS failed "Headstart" program should be redirected to members of Congress (both houses) to learn to comprehend simple English words.
Alternatively, they can cease unconstitutional activity immediately and do the right thing, and repeal the Second Amendment.

A salient point.
All arms used within the USA against its own people for any purpose whatsoever (law enforcement included) should be permitted (nay, there is an absolute right to) to all people not individually adjudicated dangerous. Any arms too dangerous to permit the people are too dangerous to permit the government to use within our borders.
An interesting point for not just resisting a new AWB, but going farther in overturning 922(o) and perhaps even NFA.
To assault law abiding citizens.
One decently aimed shot = 1 select-fire weapon out of government thug hands, and into the hands of a patriot.
