How many of you realize how great a forum Free Republic really is not only as a home for conservatives, but a home for technical information as well?
For the first Freeper who can help me download only an excerpt of a Youtube video clip into an MP3 file, I will donate to the current Freepathon in YOUR name.
We all know there are forums out there who allow you to donate to get information on computer assistance, auto repair and virtually everything imaginable.
But we have some of the brightest people on this forum and I want to make a donation to Free Republic for the first successful instruction on how to download an EXCEPT of a video file (such as You Tube) as opposed to the who thing.
vidtomp3.com at the link gives good directions on how to get the whole thing. But I just want a particular excerpt.

Go to “Add ons” in Firefox and get a program called “Easy Youtube Video Downloader”.
You can do some pretty things with this program.
Good luck.
just download the “who thing”.
Do a search for “save YouTube” on google. There are websites such as keepvid or something like that where you can save the YouTube video. Once you paste in the url, and accept the java widget to run, you are given an option to download the audio. Good luck!
Does this work for you?
Excerpt Any Part of a YouTube Video and Republish It: TubeChop
Download entire youtube video, the output is usually a flv file.
The edit that file with one of the file editing programs out there, to the length you want, have it remain as a flv file.
Then you convert said flv file into a mp3, with one of the many converters out there. I know this is a few steps, but I'm unsure if there some all in one program for ya.
Sorry!
Sweet. Nice link, I’ve already started my list of new ring tones. Thanks.

I used videograbber to obtain the video and then the free version of videopad to edit. Finally, I emailed it to myself for my iPhone5.
It's funny.
Now, I am working on downloading the software needed to convert it to an MP3 file. It wouldn't do it directly on the file at the link at the top of this thread.
YouTube MP3 Podcaster (add-on) reportedly downloads MP3s from videos, if you use Firefox. Also says it has a way to clip files. If you use Firefox, click on “tools,” then “add-ons.”
If you just want the audio, you can record the whole thing with "Ask and Record Toolbar" and then crop the part that you want out of the mp3 using "Audacity". Both are freeware.
I can do it—have you managed to do it yet?
Not yet. One of the suggested downloads gave me a nasty adware virus and I spent most of last night cleaning it up.
Just need the MP3 sound file. See my post #14.
So it’s not actually on Youtube? It’s on TubeChop?
