There has been a Utopia, Ohio, and there still exists a Utopia, Texas. In a country with a long history of creating idealistic communities, America may soon see another added into the mix a city rooted in Americas past, or at least Glenn Becks version of it.
Mr. Beck, the outspoken conservative U.S. media personality and commentator, this month outlined his proposition to create a self-sustaining city and theme park hybrid. Independence, USA represents a harkening back to a time of a simpler America and would be built on values he sees the country as now going away from freedom, truth and responsibility,
It is the rebirth of our nation through its own principles, Mr. Beck said on his syndicated Glenn Beck program. You can come here and we will show you the truth of the ideas and the ideals that created this country.
His proposed $2-billion city would be based on a free-market, limited government model. No location has been pegged down, but Mr. Beck has visited three possible sites in three different states and has spoken to two governors, said Mr. Becks TheBlaze TV website.
The self-sustaining city would include a ranch for food production, a media centre, a multi-denominational mission centre, a theme park, a research and development centre, a library, parks and baseball diamonds. It would have a communal marketplace that would serve as a public space for conducting small business and sharing ideas. Americans could either live in the citys residential area or just come to visit.
The concept was partly inspired by Galts Gultch, the utopian community in Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged, and by past initiatives proposed by Walt Disney...

Seems like a strategy focused on retreating instead of advancing. We don’t need to preserve a slice of traditional America under glass in a museum, we need to restore the whole country.
I just completed a dog cart I envisioned and built out of schedule 40, for my wife and alpha Lab.
What? .. You want ME to ride that thing ??
/8^)
So what is your plan to restore the whole country? How are you going to undo one hundred years of Progressive transformation of this country? If you go to Glenn Beck’s web sites you can get a pretty good picture of what has been done to this country, who has done it, and how they did it. After you understand that, then you have to come up with a way to undo it all without a full scale revolution, because the Progressives are counting on chaos to finalize their control of the country.
He didn’t say anything about schools and I would be ... a bit cautious that it would be a Mormon endeavor.
I don’t have anything AGAINST Mormons... but I’m not one.
I think our government would do their best to sabotage it, that’s what I think. Especially if it started to make THEIR model look bad.
What happened to real men? All I ever see on articles like this is “they won’t let us do it, so we might as well give up now!” and similar.
Here here!!
I’m very leery of a model of a utopian cloistered society, no matter who proposes it. Its a slippery slope that (to me, anyway)’ sounds cult-ish.
My town IS my front line.
Let's go out swinging Glenn...
“Independence, USA” seems to be Beck’s attempt to re-create the original Independence, Missouri, founded in the 1830’s by Mormon leader Joseph Smith. Smith said that Independence had been the site of the Garden of Eden and would be the New Jerusalem.
“..a bit cautious that it would be a Mormon endeavor.”
So what. Then you just don’t go there.....DUH.
Is this Glenn’s own Agenda 21?
That makes it easier for the government to bomb it out.
I like Utopia, Vendome which lives inside me.
Beck is promoting a utopian and insular society that is both exclusive for it’s clique and completely unwelcoming to protect the inhabitants of what should be an island, far removed society, distant and ineffective to influence change.
He should move to Utah or Northern Idaho...
America was founded on ideas like this.
Expansion, “Go West Young Man”, “Wagons Ho”, Lewis & Clark, Mormons, Pilgrims, our Founding Fathers, etc.
All these pioneers shared the idea that they could create a better life for their families while exercising their God-given right to choose their own course.
The right to worship as they wish.
The right to defend their family and self.
Their right to exist as free men.
It’s when we STOP saying to ourselves “How can I make things better” that we will know our American spirit is dead.
Beck is an Ameri-CAN. Good luck, Mr. Beck!
Glenn's done a damn good job of educating us with his blackboards...he was the first to do so, he has great guests with ample cred to explain fully it all, and he continues to do so on this level. He also wanted to make contact with our youth in schools...he wanted to reach the culture that has taken hold of so many people. I don't know how far he has come along on that score...I don't subscribe to BlazeTV as yet, but we are going to do so...I do miss it, BUT I want nothing to do with Pay Pal, and that is the only payment system he wants to deal with.
I will have to read further about Glenn's proposed Independence, USA. Is it wise for him to spend large amounts of money on a project such as this? I don't know...the jury is out on this one. But, whatever the outcome, we will continue to stand with Glenn, and agree with you, Errant, that he comes out of his funk. We need the old Glenn BACK and NOW.
Which old Beck? There is more than one.
Glenn’s gone crazy.
How did Mormonism get dragged into this conversation?
I say that although Beck considers himself some sort of messiah, the reality is that he’s just a self-promoting asshole.
