Man! This is legal scam meat machine is a disaster for people who are struggling financially. Our society is becoming both insane and cruel as a reflection of the stupid and evil parties who make our laws.
This is a crock. I've run a business before including bad checks and working with these agencies. All it takes is a phone call to the agency to return the check. They might charge the store a nominal fee because they didn't get to collect the fee from the customer, but normally they will waive it as a courtesy if they value your business.
The businesses in the town where I worked would often post their NSF checks right at the customer service window. Word got around town fast and the culprits were usually there to redeem them for cash within 24 hours.
Twice banks have cashed my checks for more than what I wrote. Recently, when cashing a third party check my bank debited my account! Check your balance daily; it only takes a minute.
