Anyone else feel like it really is a tide that is turning these days? The American College of Nurse Midwives issued a statement in support of working towards quality, competent care for trans and gender non-conforming people.

HIV infection within the gender variant community is 4 times the rate of the general population; rates of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, and depression and suicide attempts are also higher. These outcomes disproportionately affect gender variant people of color.
[G]ender variant individuals desire parenting roles and can and do create biological families….
Musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, breast, and pelvic care for individuals who have undergone hormonal and/or surgical therapy is typically straightforward but in some cases requires additional training.

I’ve always noticed the board of nursing and anything related to making rules in nursing to be liberal.
How nice ...the “pregnant couple” in California will now have custody of three children, all of whom are likely to end up certifiably, even catastrophically, bonkers. But we’re terribly concerned about protecting children from a classmate who points a finger and says, “Bang.”

Actually this kind of stuff is getting to be a problem. A born male trans gender person I know personally tried to sue a doctor who declined to do a pap test on him. He had had breast implants/enhancements and was taking scarily massive doses of estrogen, but still had male genitalia. Latter he believed that he was pregnant and got shipped off to the funny farm for a while. I can see that midwives might need some training in how to deal with these situations.

There really is such a thing called a “Phantom Pregnancy”. Being that he was on high amounts of estrogen and is mentally ill, he may well have had it!!!

Requiring the need of a midwife limits it to someone physically female, Probably been taking Testosterone Injections. May have had Mammary Glands removed.
I am guessing the male hormone will make the pelvic bones less flexible. Making natural delivery more difficult than would otherwise be expected.
There are a variety of disorders of sexual development. Most leave the sufferer sterile. Gender-Variant usually is though to include all those who develop physically not completely male nor female as well as those who mentally believe their gender doesn’t match (conform to) their body.

I assume it means those whose “gender” varies from their biological sex. Meaning they are a man or a woman and act or feel as if they were a woman or man. Or maybe it’s people who keep switching between being male and female. Who cares?
This shouldn’t be an issue, as we’ve always had tomboys, dykes, dandies, and sissies. But it’s gone way beyond how you act and what you feel, as we’ve started allowing them to mutilate themselves on the pretext they’re “really” the other sex, or just because it appeases them. Then we have to learn how to humorous them, for it is as unnatural to take them seriously as it us to play along with someone who claims their arm is haunted by the ghost of Napoleon and must he severed.
But there’s political hay to be made, especially since you can lump them together with other perverts to forge a power block and hammer others with yet more political correctness. Also, psychiatrists and surgeons gotta make a living.
I think the number of “transgendered” women who have given birth is still in the single digits. Therefore, transgendered anything is not relevant to the vast majority of midwives.
