WELLINGTON, New Zealand Gareth Morgan has a simple dream: a New Zealand free of pet cats that threaten native birds. But the environmental advocate has triggered a claws-out backlash with his new anti-feline campaign.
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
Each Ute was issued a Hi-Standard .22 and boxes and boxes of LR hollow-points, and with a minimum of adult supervision (that'll tell you how long ago this was) we were set to our grisly task.
Several thousand rounds later, the score was Utes 3, cats a whole lot more. Cue the shotguns. 12 Ga, No. 6, Field Loads. Scores climbed. Feral kitties declined. Ground-nester game birds wiped out by several brutal winters in a row, new generation of summer-people-drop-off cats back in control.
Maybe coyotes are the answer? The Aussies have a ferocious feral cat problem, feral pig problem, feral goat problem, rabbit problem, fox problem, mouse problem, rat problem, etc. Perhaps they ought to be consulted?
Stupid, brain dead cat in the picture has no idea of what that yummie eagle can do with those talons.
Kitty may get a flight on Air Eagle, and be the lunch as well.
Oh, my dear.....cats are just too vicious. We need to get rid of them all and find kinder, gentler pets.
Felines are nature’s perfect predator. Hunting and killing is their thing, and it would help folks to get over it, because they’re not gonna change.
Kenny,
I am amazed at your lack of multi-kulti and its application is the management of “Single Species “ programs.
As we both well know, allowing a bureaucrat to manage such a program is a reliable mechanism to diminish system productivity and to reduce species diversity.
May I suggest alerting Thebadeau & Boudereau regarding the number of cats available for harvest. Mention that cats are simply delicious in a gumbo - problem will shortly solved at no cost to the taxpayers.
My consulting bill will arrive in the morning mail.
;-)
As we all know, the Internet is made of pipes, and those pipes are filled with cat... If they outlaw Kittehs in NZ, I’m afraid they’ll be knocked off the Internet.
It would serve them right!

We have lost at least two and probably more domestic cats to birds of prey which swooped down and carried them off-actually witnessed by my mother in two cases.Taken from the driveway less than 50 feet from the house.
Why in heck do some people get all worked up about the “noble” hawks ,owls, or eagles when theyt are just another predator ?For that matter neither are foxes, coyotes, or wolves “noble”. They are predators who kill in order that they and their offspring might live. Not really any different from cats except cats sometimes train people to feed them.
By the way we had about a dozen females spayed but town people are always “contributing” more unwanted former pets to rural dwellers.Contributions usually accompanied by sound of car door slamming and car speding away in the dusk.
Then the burden of keep or kill the abandoned, scared pet falls on the rural homeowner. It isn’t easy to turn away a pitifully mewing or whing pet who doesn’t understand why he or she has been taken from the comfort of home and dumped out in the cold with no idea of how to survive. And when the ones that fall back on instinct manage to survive the animal is condemned instead of the cowards that dumped it.
You know, I really have no use for pet stores and puppy mills pushing out millions of cats, dogs, and “exotic” animals that add to the problems;especially when there are always lots of pets begging for a home and the SPCA kills millions every year.
If governments were run by rational people neutered pets would be fee-free-I mean NO annual license,NO initial license..THAT would do alot to encourage voluntary reduction of unwanted animals.
Molon labe!
My new dream: breeding bobcat domestic hybrids.
And then sending them to New Zealand to eat their birds.
I’ll be watching this thread to see the hue and cry over eliminating ‘fuzzy’ non-native predators by the very people who applaud eliminating ‘scaly’ non-native predators.
Should be...educational.
[one person’s “perfect predator” is another person’s “beloved pet”..ah..the qualitative conundrums do abound]
Never have been a big cat fan, but this makes me want to get one.
LOL - from my cold dead hands.
Beautiful cat.
Just doing her thing.
Australia will want to clone that cat.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of cheezburgers!
“1. It’s not just pet cats. More native birds are eaten by feral cats. Banning law-abiding cats won’t affect illegal cats.”
States have banned the ownership of legally obtained and maintained reptiles because of a problem in one isolated area, even though the snakes pose *absolutely no danger* in those states.
See how this works?
How many people freaking out over this were all for banning snake species/pit bulls/’scary dog breeds’?
If you don’t defend the rights of other people’s pet choices, don’t cry when they come after your preferred pet.
Thanks.
That’s Lizzy, “Miss Cat”.
Sometimes seen on FReepathon threads and Zot threads.
She is a very serious cat.
