I’m skeptical. Who, exactly, betrayed Sarah Palin?
What I saw with my own eyes: she was relentlessly *attacked* (head-on) by liberals in both parties, she didn’t have the resources to mount an effective defense, so she basically gave up.
But I don’t buy the “betrayal” meme.
Re: Betrayal
The DC elite “consultant” class were so sensitive to what their cocktail party friends were saying about Sarah, that they did nothing to defend her, plus I believe that there was a lot of backstabbing going on.
She was/is a brilliant spokesman for conservative values, but she was painted as a ‘hick’ because her roots were in Alaska, she hunted with a Gun! and she was pro-life. Spineless Republicans (the ones who get invited on talk shows) did nothing to defend and support her.
It is our party’s and our country’s loss.
Some freepers trashed her as well. Another site I go to for conservatives that attempts to maintain a highbrow “salon” atmosphere - had plenty of people who claimed to be conservative but bashed Sarah.
Spineless lemmings.
Uh, the initial attacks on Palin came from John McCain’s campaign manager. Betrayed doesn’t begin to cover it.
She was SAVAGED by RINOs. Almost all of the post election attacks came from the GOP Establishment.
you obviously weren’t paying attention to Karl Rove all last year.
Well, of course we would expect the left wing press to go after her. No surprise there.
But she was persistently betrayed by the Karl Rove, the RINO establishment, and the so-called conservative pundits.
And she was betrayed by Juan McCain and Mitt Romney, who lent McCain a couple of operatives whose chief purpose was to rein in and undermine Sarah and make sure she never got a chance to really get out there and address the voters.
And this last time around, she was betrayed again by the Romneybots, and even by such folks as Ann Coulter and Matt Drudge, who smeared and lied about her and the other conservative candidates in order to nominate their wonderful choice, Mitt Romney, who then preceded to blow the election against a nearly unelectable candidate.
The problem, of course, is that not many people actually know who Sarah is. Only those who have read her books or heard her speak, or who have REALLY been paying attention.
I’ll name one but there were many: Dana Perino
Let me give a clue. After the Gifford’s shooting can you name me any prominent GOP member(s) (not counting talk radio or the blogosphere) who stood up and defended her on a national format?
GOP leadership? Governor? Senator? Congressman?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?? Bueller?? Bueller??
(Jeopardy theme commences)
The only prominent national figure that defended her was noted attorney Alan Dershowitz (over blood libel charges).
Or "lying-through-his-foul-teeth" Charles Gibson, misquoting Palin in a set-up question, and when she sent the polite social signal "I'm not sure I said that" he replied haughtily, with the social superiority of looking down at her over his glasses(*), "Exact quote." (Even though as hindsight shows, it clearly wasn't, so even if he hadn't known, he *should have known* (and given his resources as a leading talking head for a major network, even the appearance of ignorance-by-design on his part is unforgiveable.)
(*) note that this is one of the things liberals accuse sexist misogynist men of doing to women, but it doesn't count when one of their own does it: this is strictly a cudgel with which to attack their opponents, and heretics from the liberal fold.
