It doesn’t look like most of the commenters are buying his argument.

My dog is my home defense plan. Large, aggressive and very protective of his family. Gives me time to access my weapon of choice.

You hear that dog owners? Be sure to include in your dogs training regimen how your dog is to behave when the police come to your door.

I have two Great Pyrennes. They are very good judges of character and can take down all sorts of stuff.

I have included our dogs in our SHTF plan.

Looks like most of the posters on this thread have the kinds of dogs who are perfect candidates for puppycide. Cops don’t generally shoot teacup poodles; they shoot the dogs they perceive as scary, like pits, GSDs, Belgians, and other dogs who are protecting their people.

I do not have a dog (not really a dog person, yet have had one for all of my life until six years ago when my dog died at 18 yrs)
If I were to get another, I would get a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
My youngest was home alone last week when a guy started pounding on the door, her RB went to her side and sat down looking at her. The guy at the door pounded harder and giggling the door handle.
She pointed to the door and just said “get’m.
The dog hit the door with such force she said it surprised her. The guy went around to the back and the dog hit the back door.
She said she picked her bat, looked the guy in the eye (through the window) and said a nano second you are gone or I release the dog.......
he fled.
Next day she bought a gun...with that dog she may not need it.
I mean really they kill lions! why not a guy?

Wow. Seems uncontroversial, but cops nationwide have burned so much credibility on this issue that the comments in the mag and here are uniformly skeptical.
This is a huge issue that some politician should hop aboard. I hope it’s a conservative.

Teach your local cops how to obey a few commands like “stop” and “behave.” These young putz-heads who are being scooped up by our police forces lack life experience, manners, morals and respect for life and others. No amount of training dogs is going to keep today’s cops from shooting animals when they have the chance. It’s who they are.

My dog is well trained, obedient, knows not to leave his yard no matter what, and is generally speaking protective of several members of the family, mostly my youngest son who the dog claims as "his."
He is however, a Labradoodle. A black Labradoodle. If someone were to break in the house while none of us were home, I have zero doubt he'd show the burglars where all the good stuff is.
Generally speaking, a loveable dog. But sometimes, not too bright.

I agree with this article. I am not defending cops; I am protecting my dogs. It’s like defensive driving. You know there are lousy drivers on the road so you drive accordingly.
Cops seem to be really afraid of dogs these days and fire at will. I am not about to give them any opportunity of taking out my dogs.
