You’ve gotten your history mixed up. Gandhi was assassinated soon after Indian independence.

Toad, I think you should check your history. Gandhi was killed by a fellow Hindu after the British left because he didn't want to push all the Muslims (plus Christians and Budistists) out as well, which is what the Hindu fanatics were demanding.
